Looking at it today, the yearbook picture evokes another era - the
old-style, barely padded football uniforms; three rows of serious-faced
players, all eyes gazing right; earnest young men poised on the brink of a
historic and dangerous adventure that would take them thousands of miles
from the playing field at Jefferson High School. They are teenagers, but
they look anything but carefree and fun-loving.
