i was lucky. although i joined in feb.'79 when carter was president and all that iranian hostage stuff was going on, i never had to serve under fire. i am thankful of that. i gave the marines eight good years.... it was dangerous times then... the soviets were on the decline and were getting desparate... i was there in twentynine palms with d co 3rd aav... we were locked and cocked.

You left off Beirut and Grenada, granted they were never declared wars but combat took place and CAR's awarded.

I did 2 tours in Lebanaon and was part of the Grenada liberation/evacuation

Joined in '92. No issues in the world at that time. The salty Marines were had just finished their time in the first Gulf War. Heard lots of stories and saw some picutres.
Close as I got was in '94 near Haiti. Thought we were going in to put that president back into power, but Mr. Clinton had other ideas.
Another close one was Air Force Capt O'Grady. He was shot down in '95 in Bosnia. He survived for 6 days and then the TRAP team went in to get him. Was on the second flight in, if things got messy.

I was attached to 2/5 from mid-June to mid-July '03. They stuck me out in town (Samawah) at that building by the traffic circle with the water tower in the middle. Were you ever on those 53 flights back to Kuwait for R&R? I was one of linguists they would stick on those flights in case we had to land and deal with the locals.
