Are there any leathernecks out there that can give me an average time frame to pick up Coporal if I graduate boot camp as Pfc?
Thanks.

It really all depends on your MOS and what the cutting scores are. But say they aren't high...and you stay out of trouble and are a good Marine...then this is what could happen: You must be a PFC for 8 months before you can be promoted to LCpl. They may not promote you if they feel it necessary. Then you must wait another 8 months after promotion to LCpl before you are eligible for promotion to Cpl. However it is rare for a Marine to be promoted after 8 months...most Marines were a LCpl for a year or longer before they were promoted to Cpl. It's a promotion taken lightly...as an NCO the standards that you must live by are much higher and there is a lot of responsibility. Not only that but lives depend on the decisions that NCO's make. Just out of curiosity why do you want to know?

Well, you may or may not have read my earlier thread where I asked about girlfriends and the Marines. I relayed the information to her because we've been thinking about the possibility of getting married and she asked for what kind of time frame.
And I'm going 03xx. What are cutting scores?

You will have a score based on your conduct/proficiency, PFT, Rifle scores and time in grade. The cutting score is determined by HQMC for each MOS. If your score exceeds the cutting score, then you will be promoted. If the cutting score is high, then there are fewer promotions.
Cutting scores for MOS's are cyclical and depend on a lot of variables. An MOS that is typically hard to promote in one year may be easier the next year or year after that.

right now the score is a 1693. So you're probably looking at a year and a half or 2 yrs going from LCpl to Cpl. The 03 field doesn't usually promote that quickly. So let her know that it will be a decent amount of time.
