I don't mean any disrespect here, but my recruiter and I don't click. Is it possible without being offensive to request the second recruiter at my local office?

Thanks,
J

Okay. Sorry for any confusion.

He doesn't seem to listen a lot. I have to repeat a lot of my answers and the answers he gives feel cookie cutter. I know this because I went in for an appointment one day and he was late so I talked to the other recruiter and loved it. I really enjoyed him because, unlike the recruiter who has taken me up, the other guy didn't try to "sell" the corps to me after I told him he didn't need to, after I told him that I wasn't here to get an education or get out with a high paying job. He seemed to really listen and we made a lot of progress. The other recruiter seems to just shill out stuff that felt mundane. Again, I'm not trying to disrespect, just being honest. I hope I don't offend anyone here.

Come on, you're 24? I expect this junk from a 16 year old, serious. Listen to yourself? You are hoping to be a US Marine and you're worried about not clicking with your recruiter? You're really not offending me, I can't speak for the rest of the folks here, but you are making me crack up! It's silly. It's life. You are going to "click" with some people, and some other's you won't. Maybe the guy doesn't listen to you because he has served 3 tours in Iraq and all the good stuff that goes along with that. Maybe he'd rather scratch his nutz then listen to you ask how long it's going to take to get into recon, again, or asking how much of a bonus you can get. Whatever it is, suck it up. You are older then that.

Suck it up? I'm not yankin' pig tails here, I'm just saying that the recruiter I have at the moment doesn't explain things as well. It's not a big deal to me but it's question I have and a question I have is worth an answer. I've sucked up a lot and a lot more I didn't need to because the misery or bullcrap of it made sense. I'm not out to whine, I'm just askin'. For God's sake. I got no problem really with sticking with this guy but the other guy had better answers. Why not go with one who has more insight?

Well my recruiter screwed me out of pfc out of boot, just cause he was lazy. If you have a crappy recruiter by all means ask someone else to handle you. no need to get screwed by one.

If there was a conflict of interest you may be able to switch.....but for a personality clash because another recruiter listens more I doubt it.

You don't need to click with a recruiter to join the Marine Corps.....all you need is the legalities explained....and sign your name on the line and swear in.

I agree with the Sgt. I would expect something like this from the 16-17 year olds poolees but this is somewhat baffling to me.

What's baffling about it? The other guy has better answers to my questions; I don't have to repeat myself in a 15 minute conversation; I feel like I'm getting a more honest explanation. If it's not right then whatever, I'll stick with him. But it's not a personality matter; it's a Q&A matter. But please define "conflict of interest". Thankyou.

The DI's are different; they seem there to pile on the stress and ready me for combat, to play mind games if necessary and put me through Hell. I don't have a choice there and I don't want one. But a recruiter just seems differen than that. I'm not delusional.

I get the run-around about OCS; I'm being ordained but it doesn't involve a degree so I'm still unsure whether or not I can be a chaplain. I don't understand how applying for Recon works: do I try out in my contract or do I work my way up to it (I prefer the latter)? I can't get to questions about other stuff because I have to repeat why it'll be a while before I can sign up.

Look, if suckin' it up is what I have to do then suckin' it up is what I'll do. I'm not asking for a rose garden. I'm just unsure. Nothing wrong with that. I have the utmost respect for all of you but there are certain probably stupid questions that I have. Maybe this one qualifies. I don't really care because I'd rather look stupid and know than keep my trap shut in an open environment like this and NOT know.

Put me in a position where I need to be a hardass and I'm your huckleberry. But here I feel I can inquire. But I guess I have my answer unless anyone else wants to chime in. Thank you to those who gave their replies and I welcome all others.

There is only one answer to a question...all recruiters follow the same SOP.

Are you saying the recruiter you have is not taking what you think to be enough time to answer your questions...but when he wasn't there the other recruiter did?

He was probally on phone watch and had nothing better to do except shoot the shiat with you.

To answer your original question go tell your recruiter that you want to be the other recruiters poolee first thing in the morning. That he is not taking enough time with you and the other recruiter does. And then if you get switched and the new recruiter is busy or has something going on and can't give you his undivided 110% splay pingpong and switch back.....a new poolee function activity.

The infantry alone is all I really want. I've just had everyone in my life say I should try for elites. I don't know if a chaplain is navy or not; the recruiter didn't say anything about that. I've only talked to him on the phone. The other recruiter I talked to in the office, on his lunch break, while the first recruiter was two hours late. Crap happens, I don't mind it. I'll switch gears in the head when the time comes, but here seemed like a good place to voice what runs through my skull. And of course, if I stick with the first recruiter he might turn out to be awesome. Again, I'm just asking.

"I'm your Huckleberry" is a line from Tombstone. It just means "I'm your guy; you can depend on me".

You asked and were telling....with the saying about the rose garden....expect thorns and scratches along the way.

He was on his lunch hour and was on phone watch.

Your recruiter was two hours late because he was taking his time answering some other poolees questions in depth...maybe clicking with him...you don't never know!

Wookie: Pastor, Korean vet, Vietnam vet, wife of a Marine, daughter of a marine, parents, older brother, sister-in-law, and the recruiter. Speaking of which:

Phantom Blooper: I don't fault him necesarily; I'm told recruiters are some of the busiest people out there so I respect that. But I respect punctuality too, and the second recruiter sacrificed half his lunch for me. I met him in the parking lot as he was about to leave. I tried to get him to reschedule but he insisted. It's that sort of things. As for thorns, I expect a crown of them in boot. And a helluva lot of grueling labor and challenging mental aspects. I can't prepare, but I want to try.

SGT: Good night and even though I'm sure this seems ridiculous I'm glad you were willing to speak up. Thank you.

But look, I'll take what I'm ordered to take. I'll suck it up. I was just impressed by one and unsure of the other. That's really all it boiled down to for me. I don't expect anything really, now that I think it through; I'm willing to shut up and go along if that's what is required of me.

Jonathan, you were introduced to one of the unofficial mottos of the Marine Corps,"Hurry up and wait."

Boot camp is pretty much schedule run....hour to hour day to day. A drill instructor has you somewhere at a certain time and they stick to the schedule and if they are running late you run to the next activity.Unless a natural disater or heat flag you can pretty much bet on this.

Same with MOS school or OCS/TBS you are given a schedule and they pretty much stick to it.

Once you hit the fleet, you have a schedule that can be delayed for various reasons...after everyone rushs to get wherever on time.

So consider yourself baptized by the hurry up and wait.If you go into the Marines you will receive allot of training in this.

You know I tend to be the only one in my family aside from my father who abides by the Hurry Up and Wait rule of thumb. It's frustrating at times, but worth it knowing I'm employing my discipline.

Thanks for the feedback, Phantom,
J
