I understand it is Marine Corps martial arts, but I am so lost on like what you learn, the belt system, who learns it, ect. Any help at all would be great because I honestly don not have the slightest clue on how this works.

I actually just read that last night to find some answers to my questions, it helped out for the most part. Hope it answers your question.
sounds silly to me.... get belts like merit badges?
i guess it works though. a lot of things have changed on me... it'll take time to get used to it all.
