Platoon to march in parade as tribute

BOSTON — A platoon of Marines will honor a fallen comrade by marching in Boston’s St. Patrick’s Day parade.
Lance Cpl. Walter O’Haire, of Rockland, loved the parade so much that last year, he left Camp Lejeune, N.C., without permission and drove all night to see it.
He was killed in Iraq six days before his 21st birthday in May.
This year, in a tribute to O’Haire, 22 Marines from his platoon will march Sunday in the parade. O’Haire’s family and friends will wave from the street corner where he watched the parade last year.
The Marines will carry a sign in the parade in honor of their platoon and O’Haire.
