WICHITA FALLS, Texas — Authorities continue investigating the murder of an Indiana Air Force reservist and former Marine, found stabbed to death in an on-base hotel at Sheppard Air Force Base just three days before graduating from technical training.

Senior Airman Blanca A. Luna, a former Marine, was pronounced dead at a Wichita Falls hospital Friday morning shortly after she was found in her hotel room unresponsive with a stab wound, base spokesman George Woodward said.

Air Force officials continue investigating but no one has been arrested, Woodward said, declining to release other details about the case. Because Luna was on temporary assignment and was a reservist, she was staying alone in one of the base hotel rooms, he said.

Luna was an Air Force Reserve member from the 434th Civil Engineer Squadron at Grissom Air Reserve Base, Ind., and had been on temporary duty at Sheppard since September. She had been attending the heating, ventilation and air conditioning initial skills course with the 366th Training Squadron and was scheduled to graduate Monday, Woodward said.

Luna, who lived in Chicago before coming to Grissom Air Force Base, served with the Marine Corps from 1997 to 2002, according to Grissom Air Force Base’s public affairs office. She most recently served with the 3rd Marine Division in Okinawa, Japan, and joined the Air Force last year.

Sheppard, the largest technical training operation in the Air Force, has about 5,000 students on base at any given time. Most arrive there after completing basic training at another base, and those students say in dorms on the base.
