Native American Marines salute veteran • The Warriors Medal of Valor was awarded to Mountain Pointe grad David R. Minick, 28, at the February meeting of the East Valley Marines in Sun Lakes. Minick received the medal from Robert Delsi, who represents the First Nations People of North America.
Minick just returned from a year of duty in Baghdad with the Multi-National Security Transition Command. He attended Maricopa Community Colleges and joined the United States Navy in 1999 and served in Japan, Guam and stateside before deploying to Iraq. The young veteran plans to become a Phoenix police officer.
The East Valley Marines Detachment 1296 welcomes all Marines as well as Navy corpsmen who served with the Marines. Meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of the month at the Oakwood Country Club in Sun Lakes.
