Dougherty County -- The Albany Marine Corps Logistics Base celebrated the retirement of one of its top Marines Friday.

After 32 year in the Corps. Colonel Kevin McCutcheon is retiring. The base's Marines and workers took part in a full retirement ceremony, including his decoration with the Legion of Merit.

McCutcheon was the Chief of Staff for the Logistics Command. From 2005 to 2007 he was the Commander of the Base Maintenance Center. He says he looked at his career in the Marines as a chance to serve his country.

"Contribution to something that's much bigger than myself," McCutcheon said. "I learned a lot about that growing up. At the end of the day, if what you are doing is not serving somebody else, then all you are worried about is yourself."

Colonel McCutcheon said he hopes to find a job in Albany, and stay in this community.
