I wanted to bring this book to all the poolees' attention. It's called Devil Dog Diary by GYSGT. William Price. It's all about Price's experience during boot camp at MCRD Parris Island. He had kept a diary with him and wrote in it everyday talking about what he was going through during boot camp. It is amazing to see the change he went through. Price went from a young man with no direction and discipline in his life to a Marine who knew where he was going in life.

I HIGHLY recommend this book to everyone here. I have a whole new found respect for all Marines. What they went through and what we as poolees are about to face is an amazing challenge! (I think thats a bit of an understatement)

I also would recommend a book called Making the Corps. It gives some great insight to boot camp and the history of the Corps.

im going to see if i can pick it up some time this week. But i would recommend "No True Glory" as well. It's the book by Bing West about the Marines taking Fallujah. The pictures in this book will get you outraged and you will want to go to Iraq that second while you are still looking at the pictures. But then when you read about how the Marines use teamwork and good American tactics....its moto for anyone

I've read "Making the Corps" and "No true Glory", and they are both good reads, some others are "My Men are my Heros", and "Lone Survivor", I know, the last one isnt about the Marine Corps, but it's still a great book about Courage, Honor and Bravery.

I told the guy I am kinda/sorta seeing about these books and I will see if he indeed got them and if they were beneficial to him whatsoever. I try to help him about the Corps (he FINALLY saw a recruiter today; I'm so proud of him for sucking up his guts and asking about things, seriously - maybe I will give him that 101st AD patch after all hahah). but the recruiter can help so much than I ever could, I think. I really want to sign him with MY friend who is a recruiter, but I have no idea how. It's not even the fact of him being a person eligible for me to get a higher rank, because I already have E2 with my Bachelor's Degree; I just want to get him wearing the same uniform as I am.

Think he'll take the bait on this, seriously? I know the O5s of EVERY RTBn. on Parris Island (yes, seriously) and they seemingly have taken to me, so gah, I need to just concentrate on being able to re-join myself, that is all really.

I would also highly recommend Making the Corps I'm almost finished with it and I can hardly put it down. I also loved Warrior Soul which is the memoirs of a Navy SEAL, he takes a few pot shots at the Marine Corps, but it is still a very good book.

Hahahah yeah yeah, future future. I'm becoming the career wannabe (I broke my collar bone the week before I was supposed to DEP). I just did a quick search, I'm sure there's plenty more. :)

That sucks about the collar bone. Just make sure your more gonnabe than wannabe and you will become an "am". Haha. But seriously when are you going to become a poolee.
