The Tehama County Young Marines were presented with an American flag by a Marine veteran who requested to remain anonymous.

The flag is approximately 20 feet high and 27 feet long. A few of the Young Marines were present to help hang it at the Tehama County Police Activities League Fitness Center/Young Marine Barracks, 1005 Vista Way on Saturday.

Each time the Young Marines hold their drills (twice each month) they begin with the Pledge of Allegiance. Beside drug demand education efforts, including the dangers of alcohol and tobacco, the Young Marines are strongly encouraged to hold good grades in school, actively engage in physical fitness and be committed to the community in which they serve.

Interested youth from ages 8-17 are encouraged to apply for the upcoming Boot Camp, Series 0801, to be held July 9 through July 13, Wednesday through Sunday. Young Marine Boot Camp is physically and mentally challenging, but also rewarding and fun. Recruits learn about team building, drug demand reduction efforts, physical fitness and self-defense, U.S. history, fire prevention and safety, protecting property, cleaning their rooms, how to care for and wear the Young Marine uniform, map reading and respect.

The core values of honor, courage, commitment, teamwork, leadership and discipline will be instilled during the week long series.

Incoming recruits and a parent or guardian must watch a 15-minute DVD from our National Headquarters in Washington, D. C., before enrolling. Contact us at 840-0345, usmcmike3zero@sbcglobal.net, or 529-4418, dvidaljr@yahoo.com.

The public is encouraged to visit our national Web site at www.youngmarines.com.
