Marines take care of their own in 2007 CFC

MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. (Feb. 28, 2008) -- $850,873.38 donated to charity. That stunning accomplishment is reality. Almost one million dollars was donated to the Combined Federal Campaign.
Through the year of 2007, federal employees from around the Onslow county area gave enough in donations to break records.
When a donator gives his money he can either chose to send it to a certain charity or let the CFC do it for him. In this years’ case Marines took good care of eachother. “Through different Marines charities, Marines were taking care of their own this year,” said Kristi Halstead, Onslow County CFC executive director.
A total of $55,241.80 was given to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, $65,191.17 to the Wounded Warrior Project and Hope for the Warriors received $60,838.76 from the CFC. (Stats given by the CFC)
When a federal employee makes a donation to the CFC, that is in between $500 and $999.99 for the year 2007, they are considered to be what the CFC named a “Bronze Eagle.”
Halstead said these members were given an eagle statue by the CFC to show their thanks and appreciation for the donations.
“The members who gave $1000 or more last year are our ‘Gold Eagle ‘members, they also received a beautiful statue to show our thanks,” said Halstead.
“This year was a ground breaking year and I cant say enough about this community, is really amazing and I am so thankful for everything,” she added.
