This form is used to make "Application for Correction of Military Record". It has been suggested to me to use this form for application for the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. President Kennedy signed the order authorizing the Medal for "Taiwan Strait 23 Aug 1958 - 1 Jan 1959" in 1961. I got out in Feb 1960 and did not become aware that I am entitled until this week. I just became aware of Marines that were there the same time as me that were awarded the AFEM.
When I finally got my discharge document (after 40+ years) the back side that list engagements, etc was totally blank. Therefore, I have no idea if our deployment to Taiwan is documented in my SRB. The only thing my DD214 shows is "months out of country".
I see the AFEM as validating my involvement (for me and my heirs) with the not so cold, cold war when we were defending the folks of Taiwan (ROC) from the Mainland Chinese (PROC).
If any of you have experience with this kind of thing, I'd appreciate any feedback or info you would care to share.
Semper Fidelis, Marines, and thanks in advance!!
