Crash victim a Kaneohe Marine, police say

A 22-year-old man killed in a fiery single-car crash Tuesday night on H-3 Freeway was a Marine stationed at Kaneohe Bay, police said.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner's Office and Marine Corps Base Hawaii public affairs Wednesday were not disclosing the man's name until his identity is confirmed and his family notified.
Speed was an apparent factor in the crash of the man's 1986 Chevrolet two-door car a half-mile west of the Mokapu Boulevard overpass, investigators said.
The driver lost control of the car, which veered off the roadway and up a hillside, hit a tree and flipped over at 9:56 p.m.
The car burst into flames. Emergency personnel could not get the driver out of the car. There was no one else in the vehicle.
The death is Oahu's seventh traffic fatality in 2008. There were 13 traffic deaths at this time last year.
