HOLLAND and SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP -- Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 24th Marines from Grand Rapids, Mich., at the center of controversy in early February after Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner banned them from a downtown training exercise, could be back in Northwest Ohio this spring.

But they won't be back to conduct training of any kind.

Instead Springfield Township and the City of Holland have drafted an invitation for the Marine reserve regiment to be the Grand Marshall in the 2008 Strawberry Festival Parade.

The parade takes place on Sunday, June 15, on Father's Day.

The township community homecoming corporation proposed the idea at Tuesday evening's trustee's meeting and to Holland's city council meeting. Both proposals were approved.

The 71st Holland Strawberry Festival runs June 11-15.
