If traffic seems a little more congested in Havelock lately, it has something to do with the thousands of marines who've recently made their return to the east. Members of the Second Marine Aircraft Wing spent anywhere from seven to 13 months in Iraq. And they were involved in a special ceremony today.

More than 5,000 Marines from Cherry Point's Second Marine Aircraft Wing have been trickling back into Havelock over the past month. And for these men and women who've recently spent time in Iraq, there truly is no place like home.

In a ceremony late Friday afternoon, the entire wing made up of four different units was deactivated. For these men and women that means a time to rest before returning to base for training. These ceremonies happen every time a wing comes home but these men and women say it's still a special time to reflect on their service.

"Its an emotional time, its emotional because I can look to the left and the right at some of the marines who were there with me," Master Gunnery Sergeant John Nichols with the Second Marine Aircraft Wing said.

Sadly enough, some members of the wing were killed in Iraq but on the whole, most of them made it back safely to Havelock. And while these marines and sailors are back here in the east, several more from the aircraft wing are about to return in the next few weeks.
