A new Marine was talking about How someone/group/something (don't know which) is trying to pass Stress Cards. Is this true? Do you think it will pass?
I hope I get to boot in April before this happens. I don't want to go through boot and then be made fun of for having stress cards, whether you use them or not.

I'm no expert on this but what I have read on this is one HUGE joke being played by Marines on us poolees. I have heard that the Army has begin to use a "stress card" at the basic training but I'm pretty sure not the Marines. They even givin the recruits in the Army the right to bring the cell phones with them to Basic.

Don't worry about it. They couldn't give you enough stress cards make a difference anyway.

It was wildfire scuttlebutt several years ago...and it still is. It is not specifically Marines kidding poolees, more like a bad entire Service joke..
You will get teased about your "stress card" I am sure.
It doesn't exist so you will make the cut off....

This must be a new thing, when i went through if you took your cellphone with you they took them from you and locked them up throughout Basic >>

Yeah, it's really nuts what there doing to raise the enlistment count. If a person wants to become a Soilder than they will and nothing will stop them. There just trying to get the "I wanna pay for college" kids to enlist and they find Drill Sergeants screaming at them and there like forget this and start talking to walls. That's why I like the Marines, your there because you wanna become the best and nothing will stop you!

It said that 1 out of 10 recruits drop out too...
I think that the Army needs to be a little more picky on who they allow to enlist when they have 11% of people failing summer camp. No disrespect to those who make it though, I appreciate what the Army does for the U.S.
This is insane =/ I can't believe this. My brother just joined the Air National Guard too. Makes me feel sorry for him -_-

wow...thats sad.
My friend just left for bootcamp and he was told he could bring his cell phone for "emergency phone calls home"
also, they ARE allowed the use of the internet during "bravo phase" cause a guy i know that was in boot for the army posted on another forum i belong too telling everyone how he was doing.
the stress card thing isn't real,he said they never issued stress cards or anything close too one.

Wow I hate to say this cause I do respect the recruits trying to become soilders but it does sound like summer camp. You can call the parents or you can email them if you want. Well the stress cards I guess you don't need those in camp either. I'm sure some great Soilders come out of there but its seems like worst than good.

why send them to boot camp and waste tax payers money. just send them a rifle and a paycheck at home. Hey Mom I'm joining the army and don't even have to go to boot camp anymore.
Seriously, whats going to happen to them when they get to combat and they havent been trained to work well in a stressful environment... isnt that the whole point of DIs (Or DSs as known in the Army) to yell at recruits and stress them out so they learn to cope with it =/ Its not like the enemy is going to talk to them nicely and such >_< Ugh the Army is going to ruin its recruits, and that includes my little brother, this is upsetting

sounds like you will do well in my beloved Corps. Yes that is the main purpose of how Marine Drill Instructors treat their recruits. And that little bit stress they receive in boot does not compare what so ever to the stress in any hostile situation. Believe me there is more going on out there than you hear in the news. you only hear about the big news worthy stuff.
This is very strange. I've talked to many people who just got out of BCT and they said they weren't at all allowed near a computer or a cell phone? Odd. Where did your friend go to BCT?
This is a big reason why I want to join the Marines instead. I WANT better training, because I am afraid (no matter what branch I may transfer to in the end) that if I find myself in a combat zone I will not have the best training I could possibly have.
It's disappointing, because I wanted so badly to join the US Army. However, the softer BCT turns me off of the concept.

Of course I'll do well! I'm postive of it now. I'll do my best and I'm almost 100% sure I have a chance of making Honor Man if I can keep my attitude up and if I put in 110%.
And I've heard and know that its going to be tough shipped out, but I want to do my part in it too. Someone has to do it, so why not me.

Thanks for the replies about the Cards. Makes me feel better that I won't be joked on once I finish boot camp because they decided to pass out Stress Cards.
Looks like the Army has a Boy's Scout Summer camp now!

I would like to think that even with stress cards you wouldn't be 'joked on.' You are giving the next four years of your life for your country, that's nothing for anybody to joke about.

It's hard to be shipped to Iraq, and Afghanistan now?
Even for volunteers?

From what I've heard about all these Army Basic Training changes...mainly applies to the non-infantry trainings. Fort Benning, I think it was that trains infantry, is like a modified Parris Island. Maybe the Army realized that it didn't need to be so hard on the pogues as they have less of a chance of being in combat?

maybe but that sounds like it would be a poor decision on the Army's part. What if a non-infantry unit gets into a combat situation?

If what TheChiefIsIn said is on, then I would doubt those guys would even be deployed to Iraq, or Afghanistan. They probably have Admin jobs, and other MOS's that keep them on Base.

I don't know much about how Army handles things, but don't MPs or infantry units accompany the pogues if they had to leave base while deployed? Even then, Soldiers still have basic rifle handling techniques. I'm sure even they can lock and load, aim, and fire, even without the finer details.

You can "WHAT IF" this to death! But let me remind you of what General George Patton once said, "EVERY SOLDIER IS A GOD DAMN RIFLEMAN"! I know that was how it was during my stay in the Army and I don't think they have changed that since I got out! Not according to the soldiers I have talked to over the years!
I think that pretty well closes this argument, now move on! We are The Marine Corps, The Few, the Proud,,,,you know! We all agree that if anyone could pass our Boot Camp, then we would not be unique, right? Ooo-Rah!
That's my 2 cents
