How often do you get haircuts in Boot Camp? I know its random, but just something I thought of.:) Thanks.

I believe it was every week, or close to it. Then on week 10 (I think it's week 10 now) they only trim the sides, and by the time you come back from the crucible, it's time to give you a real high and tight.

Don't know about now, but back in 1971 it was once a week, whether we needed it or not. 40-cents per haircut too.
After 1st Phase, they only cut the sides. So by the time we graduated we had a full fledged high and tight. Boot camp was back up to 11-weeks by then too, so it was a mark of what little seniority we had when in PT gear.
If I got a true high and tight now, I'd look like a first day cue ball all over again. :(
There were no high and tights for us in bootcamp (this time last year). I graduated with almost no hair at all on my head.
We got them once a week though. Preparing recruits for life in the FMF.

Once a week? Wow...that was sooner than I thought. Good though, I have ridiculously fast growing hair.

Zulu, just think of all the money we save by having that solar panel instead of hair :D and we can be used as a signaling device on a sunny day.

I know my Recruiter gives himself his own High and Tight, and it looks damn good if I do say so, he said he wants to train me to be barber, save me some money :)

If you can cut hair and have clippers (walmart 8 dollars) your skills will be in demand on float when the ships barber line gets pretty long. Marines will pay cash if your good and you'll get the huss. If your not a butcher, maybe sodas and tobacco.

This raises another question in the same category, we should wait to get to Parris Island to worry about a hair cut, right? I usually keep mine short as a matter of neatness, but should we not worry about that when ship time is a few weeks away, or should we keep it neat?

Used to be, going in short and neat would free you from a little harassment. [I went in with long haired hippies] You'll just get harrassed some other way. But think about it, looking neat and clean cut can go towards a first impression.

No sense going overboard. They will cut your hair off anyway, regardless of need. Like Sparkie said, a neat, first impression won't hurt. Won't help much, but won't hurt.

Good first impressions are next to nothing,,,, But A blind DI can spot a dirtbag. That's what I was trying to say.

My hair is pretty damn long right now and I was thinking of just shaving it all off the night before I ship. Would this be looked down upon or should I just wait till I get to the Island?

My Recruiter told me that even if you do shave your head, DI's recognize that as you trying to get out of the hair cut, and instead still drive the barbers lawn mower over your prickley head.
I know my Recruiter gives himself his own High and Tight, and it looks damn good if I do say so, he said he wants to train me to be barber, save me some money :)
Does your recruiter know you're attracted to him?

Our DI's had no idea what individual hair and dress styles we favored before we were shaved and uniformed because they were on vacation, yep thats right the senior later told us that they get one week off after each cycle and it was about 7 days before the recieving DI let the dogs loose on us:evilgrin:maybe this has changed?
You're right SD. When the first haircuts are done the recruits are with recieving DIs, not the DIs they'll have for the next few months.

I heard from a friend of mine that its bad to buzz your hair before you go in. They'll chew your a$$ out.
"Oh so you think you're a friggen recruit?!"
That kinda thing. Just what I heard. I'll stick with giving them the satisfaction of buzzin it for me.

I don't remember if it was every week. Sometimes it seemed like it skipped a week. We didn't get high and tights until after the crucible. I wouldn't shave my head before going in either. They are going to find hair on your head to cut, even if you don't have any haha.
