I just read a post where a poolee stated that he wanted to become a firefighter and it sparked my interest in what everyone else would have liked/would like to do as an alternative career if they hadn't choosen the USMC.

If you didn't choose to join the Marine Corps, what would you pursue as a career?

Or when you get out, what will you pursue?

Me- Farming (probably just a Wisconsin thing...)

Go to business school and take it from there. However, I'm heavily weighing the 20 year stint in the Corps if I make it through OCS in a couple of years.

If I had my ultimate choice, a Fighter Pilot, but seeing as my vision sucks so much that on the vision test at MEPS the guy goes:

Guy: Read line 4
Me: There is a line 4? I can't see it...
Guy: You can't see it?
Me: I see only like 3 lines squished together I think...

After I get out of the Corps if I choose to, I would like to become a FireFighter, I have done alot so far to pursue this job, but thought serving my country right now would be a good thing... If that does not work out and I get to old or something, I would like at least my AA in FireTech and do the fire safety hazard crap and be making 6figs a year...

Before I joined I had no real direction in my life, even though I am in the DEP just that has given me something to work towards, it is remarkable. If not, I would probably end up taking over the family business.

I think we can make it work guys..................

Big Jim - you buy the place (just to get us started - we'll work a deal on pay back).

Big Al can play the piano.

We can use Phantom to dance (come on big boy - I bet you STILL got the moves - LOL!) solely for entertainment for the girls.

And, my Brother Ordie, can recruit the girls. But, don't you come home with no trashy stuff now - we don't want no crack ho's (yes, I know you'll give some to a crack ho too but, not on THIS mission).

I don't care who names it or what it's called - you 4 figure it out. ;)

OK boys................let's have a round and shake on it

I really have no clue what i'd be doing. I guess i'd go to college. The only thing that i really thought about would be majoring in something with computers. The other thing is I've always wanted to become a helicopter pilot. Funny thing though, my desire to become a Marine outweighed my desire to become a helicopter pilot- if it hadn't i probably would have joined the Army (better chance to become pilot- enlisted pilots ya know). But even then I might not have been able to become a pilot. I'm happy with my choice.

I think piliots are overrated. No disrespect to any piliots out there, but (in my opinion) the grunts are the one's that deserve most of the credit. The grunts are the ones who see the true grit of war. Piliots they go through danger for a couple of hours sure, but grunts live in danger. I have alot of respect for both, but if I had to choose one, I choose grunt hands down.

KevinR90
01-31-08, 09:07 PM
well that's true- except for the fact that with those couple hours of action- speaking about helicopters- they're not exactly safe. Slow moving big hunks of metal in the sky = nice target.

But i'm not going to get into a discussion about what MOS is #1. Besides, I don't know enough about it to make an informed comment.

If I wasn't going to accept my commission spring '09, I would be looking into the Navy's medical field. Being a corpsman is about as close to the Marines as you can get without being a Marine.

Remember...everyone involved gets FREE FRINGE BENEFITS, too!!!! Is that a dream-job or what?!?!? Selling pleasure for a living...what a way to go!!! I'm in...I'm in!!!

I'd probably went to college and studied to be aircraft engineer, and then in the middle of it I would have regretted for not following what I wanted to do for my entire life: to join the Marine Corps. I still want to become an aircraft engineer, so by joining the Marine Corps now I can accomplish both!

All things aside. I would prpobably be a bum since it was the Corps that gave me a job in Data Processing and that set the path for my life for the next 30+ years. Now I am in Warehousing but still apply all the principles I learned in the Corps.

P.S. I have only once held a job that I wasn't supervising someone in one capacity or another since I got out in 1977....
