Surrendered: Amer Hammoudi al-Saadi

SADDAM AIDES SURRENDER

Two Iraqi generals, including a senior aide to Saddam Hussein, have surrendered to American forces in Baghdad, according to reports.

Saddam's top scientific adviser, one of 55 people on America's most wanted list of Iraqi leaders, gave himself up to US forces, German public TV station ZDF reported.

General Amer Hammoudi al-Saadi, who denounced weapons inspections before war broke out, turned himself in, with a ZDF camera crew accompanying him at his request.

His surrender would be the first from the group of 55 the United States wants killed or captured, ZDF said.

He features on the seven of diamonds card in a deck of playing cards the US is planning to issue to troops depicting the 55 most wanted leadership figures.

Mr al-Saadi said he had no information on the whereabouts of Saddam and he also denied that Iraq had chemical or biological weapons.

He said he had decided to surrender because he felt "in no way guilty".

The station said in a statement that Mr al-Saadi "wished to be accompanied by a ZDF team" when he gave himself up.

Before the war, he had often dealt with the UN weapons inspectors and was wanted by US forces.
