Hey everyone,

Just a few quick questions. I am almost 25, mother of 2 and pretty out of shape. I meet weight requirements and all, but the more I have started trying to get into shape, the more I realize, I'm not 18 anymore. It wouldn't be such an issue, except that I go to MEPS tomorrow and the recruiter said my ship date will most likely be the 10 of February. That's in 3 weeks!!! I need some serious exercise moves. I have been working on upper body strength for the hang, and my husband is helping me do sit-ups every day. I still am not up to par. Not to mention I am very sore and don't want to injure myself or be so sore that I can barely move when it's time for the IST. The running I need to learn how to build endurance. Does anyone know of any good exercises that will help me get where I need to be? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.....I don't mind working my butt off. I just don't want to be the one who shows up to boot camp and isn't worth a d***.

Considering you are in J-Ville, I would presume that you have access to the base. If so, you can walk into any of the fitness centers and work with someone, free of charge. If you don't have base...

Here's a good article that I came across this evening. I discovered the SemperFit program about five years or so ago when my son became a Marine.
It sounds like a bonafide, wonderful program that covers many "getting-in and staying-in shape" concerns.

A few newer Marines have claimed that boot camp is easy and i wonder if this is why??? If enough recruits have not prepared in advance, the PT may have to be toned down or the wash out rate could be unacceptable. Those who enter boot camp prepared may not suffer as much and consider it easy hhhmmmm.

Anyway staying active all day long will help prepare you at this late stage. If you dont have to drive or take a bus then don't. walk briskly or run everywhere you go. For example: leave the kids with the hubcap and walk to the grocery store, carry bags in both hands and a pack on your back. It might burn but you will engage in alot of activities that suck, like humping everywhere you go and often carrying things that are awkward and heavy. Basically avoid elevators, escalators and SUV's whenever possible. Wash clothes by hand and hide the remote controls, little things like this add up to overall conditioning if you stay active all day long.
...I meet weight requirements and all, but the more I have started trying to get into shape, the more I realize, I'm not 18 anymoreIt's best to cank that attitude and carry on as you wont find much sympathy from D.I.'s or fellow recruits__although younger__who are doing all they can to survive another day in boot camp.

Thanks to all of you! Fortunately my new ship date will not be until March, which gives me a few more weeks to PT PT PT. :) Again, thank you for all your input! I will be checking out those sites.
