Hi everyone! I just want to ask if my husband will be able to write me letters or receive my letters in the Camp Pendleton portion of boot camp. He is entering Phase II and I am just very curious. Thank you to all who will reply to this :)

I think that's the part where they get to go to a Padres ball game, and eat hotdogs and popcorn.

 I am confused as to whom I am speaking...the poolee or his wife! The mail goes on as usual, no changes. The address and everything is the same. Just keep on keeping on with the letters as usual.

Maybe you should change your status to Marine Spouse!

I was merely asking if they still continued to receive letters. You don't need to be condescending. Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, it was uncalled for and unnecessary. Unless you mean to address the question seriously, could you please not. Thanks.

Hi! Thank you so much for your answer! I am glad to know that mail goes on as usual. I am a recruit wife and my husband is going on Phase II and I am very excited for him. I would like to know how he does and what not, which is why I am asking if they receive letters or are able to write, still. Your answer is GREATLY APPRECIATED! :)

About being a poolee, I'm not quite sure I deserve the title of "Marine spouse" quite yet... But on March 14, I will!

I wasn't being condescending. Recruits on the West Coast that go to bootcamp this time of year get to go to take 20 bucks out of their accounts, and go to a Padres ball game, and eat/do/say what they want, for military appreciation day.

Heh...I guess you learned something, "poolee".

Oh I am so sorry! I seriously thought you were joking! :c Okay I did learn something new! Yay! Thank you for that... do you know at all when they get to do that? Well, that is nice... What is a Padres Ball game?:bunny:

Actually, he's making a jab at us Hollywood Marines (those that go to San Diego). He won't be leaving Pendleton until he's done with that phase of training. His mail follows him so there won't be any disruption in delivery. He may be very busy, though.

Next time you write him, tell him a nice man named Jody said hi.

LMAO, I'm really not joking Sgt. I was in MOS school with about 12 Marines from SD. They told us how their entire platoons got to go to a Padres game. They all went to bootcamp in Dec-Jan.

They later regretted telling us this, because we never let them live it down. While we were getting pitted for various offenses, they were being recognized for their service at a ball game.

I bull**** you not.

Cole, there have been times that recruits have been sent to the game, but it's only those currently on the depot. And, those guys telling stories need to get their dates straight. Baseball season doesn't start until the end of March.

Correct, it starts end of March. Everyone I was at MOS school with went to the depot between Dec-Jan, and graduated between March-April.

I know it's ****ed up Sgt., but they actually got to go to a baseball game.

Here's an article from 2004 about the yearly event.

SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- The San Diego Padres, known to many as the "Team of the Military," continued their yearly salute to the military April 15 when they hosted the 8th Annual Military Appreciation Day at their new downtown home, Petco Park.

Thank you so much, Jodi! :) I'm glad to know that mail follows him there and that there won't be any disruption. I also understand he'll be very busy and won't get to write as much... :c But that is ok... So far, I have 9 letters and I am grateful!

I didn't realize that there was a difference between Marines that graduated in San Diego vs. Parris Island. To me, all Marines are awesome and kick ass, whether from San Diego or Parris Island! :) I will write my husband that a very nice man named Jodi says hi! :]

Hi everyone!Hello, Pendleton is the toughening phase of boot camp where former joystick jocks are exposed to sure nuff ridge running. It's a stamina test, it hurts and its dirty and some of the new guys have reported that boot camp is not tough anymore but the hills of Pendleton only have to be tested to kick a tender ass. Basically its where he will begin to feel like a field Marine. We stayed very busy and quite tired but yes the mail still went through.

I wouldn't do that if I were you! Jody is not a nice person, That's not the SGTs name, Jody is the guy that steals your girlfriend away while you are in training!

This is a Marine Site and we are likely to say anything, just be careful what you ask, and repeat!

Thanks for letting me know this. I feel really stupid now. Thank you for the advice, too. I really appreciate it.

Call me naive but I've never heard of a term "Jody" used to depict a loathesome person who would dare steal someone's girl while they are at boot camp. Some people, I swear. But thank you.

Ok, Ok, lets get this straight. Jody is not a loathsome(sp) person.

Jody is the the most upright person a lot of folks will ever meet.

Jody has saved more possible unions than known to man.

It's not Jody, Dawlin', it's you!!!

You didn't write, 'try to steal', you wrote, 'dare steal', which in my book, means 'stole'.

Sorry again, Dawlin', but Jody is alive and well. He could be your best friends brother, your landlord, banker, sunday school teacher, neighbor, pool boy, WHATEVER!!!!!!

Jody is not despicable. Jody is a Man. You are Woman!

Sheeit happens!!

It's on your shoulders. You love your man, then there is no Jody.

During the Camp Pendleton portion of boot camp, you will go to Edson Range where the Weapons and Field Training Battalion is located.

The first week you will begin Grass Week. You will be marched out to an outdoor classroom and sit in a set of bleachers. There will some whiteboards and ammo cans. There you will be your platoon's Primary Marksmanship Instructor and begin learning the fundamentals of shooting the M16A2 service rifle. You will also be "snapping in" (dry practice firing). Do not anger your PMI's or they will call your drill instructors and have them slay you. They are serious about teaching you about the rifle.

Then comes Firing Week where you go to a range and get assigned a Range Coach. He will be responsible for four recruits. He will help you with your shooting and make sure you qualify. He will also be the coolest guy during your entire stay at MCRD. There will be three consecutive days of live firing. Then comes pre-qualification and qualification. You will also spend a large amount of time operating the target pits.

After that, you will begin Field Week where you take your pack and hike out to the bivouac site. There, you will set up camp and freeze your butt off at night (in fall and winter). You will learn field firing (rudimentary combat marksmanship), basic land navigation, individual movement techniques, and MRE consumption. At first, MRE's will be somewhat delicious but you will learn to hate certain ones with a passion.

During your stay, you will also hike 3, 5, and 8 miles with a pack on. The packs may feel heavy but they are nothing close to what the infantry guys carry.

When I went to boot camp, we did the Crucible right after Field Week. You will do it during the 11th week. You will be bused back to San Diego where you will finish up everything else (prac tests, travel arrangements, etc.). You will come back during the 11th week and perform the Crucible. You will become a Marine after the 10 mile hike and enjoy the last week as a Marine. For us, the drill instructors rode our butts until graduation day; hell, they continued to ride us even after graduation in front of our parents.
