One: I have flat feet, but I'm not yet sure if it is means for DQ (I have yet to be bothered by it). My question is, if I had surgery to correct my flat feet, and after 1-2 years of recuperation I want to join the Marine Corps, would this get me DQ'd?

Two: Is eye surgery a DQ? If not, would you recommend it (given that I have the money)?

Three: I heard that the military (might just be the Army) provides affordable means for getting eye surgery once on active duty. Is this true?

Your questions are vague to say the least! Flat feet are not a DQ...depending on how bad they are, the Corps will issue insoles for that, The eye surgery....well what for? If your eyesight is good or correced, then let the Corps take care if it for you later.

Just my 2 cents!

Just my 2 cents! Well, I'd rather be a Marine without having to worry about my glasses breaking/falling off -- not to mention that glasses limit my field of view.

I've been wearing glasses since I was in 1st grade, so if you're wondering, it's not a vanity/cosmetic issue ; )

I guess number 10 on the "read this before posting" list should be bolded for our 4-eyed friends.

I did a search on flat foot surgery and got nothing

That question was answered in my post earlier! The eye part.......well...... it seems like vanity to me if you've been wearing galssses since first grade!

I've had glasses with no shame or remorse, but as I seek to be a Marine, I'd hope to not be handicapped by glasses. Like I said, they limit my field of view and if they break, I'm basically screwed. If it was vanity, I'd have used contact lenses for all my life

The answer to the Lasik surgery is in the search archives in the Poolee Forum or the Ask A Marine.

Don't know if the flat feet is DQ or not but being a grunt my arches dropped after many years and humps and I never had any trouble until my late forties...now I'm Gellin!

Thanks for the reply and it's good to hear that you had no trouble with low arches

I only searched for "eye surgery" so I found little enlightening results, but now that I searched for "Lasik", I got the answers I wanted =)

That just reinforces my conclusion that it is vanity! You should be used to the glasses by now! I really don't care if you have them fixed with lasix or whatever, that's up to you. But don't come on a Marine Corps site and ask a question and then get aggrivated because you don't get the answer you were looking for. We Marines say what's on our mind, like or not, I don't care either way, but keep your sarcastic Icons to yourself!

Again, though, I am used to glasses, but for the simple activities that I perform; that is, mostly: college, work, and soccer. Being a Marine requires more of my eye, and a limited field of view is certainly a handicap. Just wondering: do you wear glasses? Do you know how much it limits your field of view? I'm not talking about near/far-sighted-ness but the limit that glasses put on your field of view due to the fact that there is a large area around your eyes which your glasses can't correct. It's a performance issue, not a vanity issue.

You'd think that I would be more worried about vanity in college than I would in the Marines =P

Why GOD....oh why do I debate with these guys that know all the answers they want to hear? Yes I wear glasses and have since i was 14, did in the Corps, still do! If you want to have surgery...go for it, I don't give a damn why you do it! It's up to you. Jim Carey likes his BCGs, he still wears them after all! They never affected my firld of vision, and wouln't yours either, I mean hell you don't really remember not wearing them do you? SUCK it up and get on with your life and forget about the trivial things! If this is all you had to worry about I would be right there helping you figure it out! But I don't see any big deal in either of your questions! You are coming borderline disrespectful to a Marine, I suggest you leave this alone!

Ok you asked if having surgey on your eyes would dq you, that depends on if the surgery goes well or not! You asked if being flat footed and/or having foot surgery to correct that, would dq you, I think those questions have been answered!

FYI, if you inquire, on this site about me, you will find that I can be your best friend...or your worse enemy! You choose! The mods don't like it when a poolee/wannabe disrespects Marines for any reason!

I wasn't trying to disrespect you, but I apologize for not making my intentions clear.
