Team Semper Fi

Some wounded sailors and Marines will show they still got it Saturday during triathlon training at Camp Pendleton.
The group is part of Team Semper Fi, which is supported by the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund and designed to boost morale among wounded sailors and Marines.
A total of 26 wounded sailors and Marines belong to the team, which was founded last year and has so far competed in nine triathlons, two marathons and one adventure race across the country. Nine of them will be present at tomorrow's event, which begins at 9 a.m. with an endurance bike ride, followed by an open water swim at Del Mar Beach on Camp Pendleton.
"The athletes with Team Semper Fi are very competitive and they enjoy taking part in events to compete with other athletes to show that they can go up against the best," said the team manager, Staff Sgt. John Szczepanowski.
Tomorrow's event marks the start of the team's 2008 training season.
The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund has given more than $16 million to help wounded sailors and Marines since it was founded in 2004. The fund helps Team Semper Fi pay for special equipment, uniforms, travel costs and entry fees.
