My preffered MOS' are 2111 and 08XX. [Hopefully 0811, I'm pretty sure.] What I needed were some Marines who could have good insight in both? So I can maybe get some solid opinions on each one to narrow down my decision. Also does anyone know what I would have to do to qualify for both?
I've used the search engine and saw some little explanations of each but I wanted current Marines who could have solid insight on both. Thanks and sorry in advance if there was already a post about this.

I'm an 0811 and it was very cool. You can consider us Grunt Lite. ; )
I say Lite because one of our mottos is "if you can't truck it, fuk it." In other words, we don't hump. We do a lot of the other things that are common to the ground combat element units. We learn squad tactics, convoy operations, and preparing a defensive position. We train on all the crew served weapons, M60, M2, Mk19. And there are the rare opportunities for helo ops or LCAC deployments.
We do all those things and carry the biggest gun on two wheels, the 155mm Howitzer. I used the M198, but now the new kid is the M777. It makes a big boom and can wreck the enemys' day.
While the 03xx jobs are physically more demanding, the 08's have a very important thing in common with them. An arty battery operates mostly as cohesive squads much like an infantry company does. In arty, the squad or section, crews a howitzer. This 12-13 man unit develops tight working relationships and this unity transfers into whatever mission they're assigned. This contrasts with other combat MOS's that work in smaller units (ie, armor, engineer, weapons). Theoretically, this means that an arty battery stripped of it's cannons can quickly organize into a rifle company and retain all of the unit cohesion built over from the training cycles.
This actually happens more than you'd think. When preparing for a MEU deployment, the arty battery trains up to do many things along with the infantry battalion. MOUT and crowd control are the first things that come to mind. Also, on the Reserve side, artillery batteries are going over without their guns. Our local battery went over in 2005 as a detention company.
Hope this gives you some insight. I didn't spend much time talking about the big gun. The grunts and tankers have big guns, too.

By the way, the local reserve battery I was talking about is November 5/14. They're in Pico Rivera off the 605. You can probably go down there and take a look around.
