The Marine Corps has dropped charges against one of two Marines accused of tampering with parachutes before a September training exercise at Camp Lejeune, military officials announced Wednesday.

Lance Cpl. Julian C. Ramirez, 25, had been charged with 13 counts of attempted premeditated murder, 13 counts of reckless endangerment, one count of conspiracy to commit premeditated murder, one count of destruction of government property and one count of unauthorized absence.

Charges were filed after investigators found that suspension lines on 13 parachutes were cut prior to a Sept. 21 exercise over Camp Davis.

Three Marines were injured when they were forced to rely on reserve parachutes to save themselves from falling more than 1,200 feet.
