The identity of a Cherry Point Marine pilot who safely ejected before his Harrier crashed last week was released on Wednesday.

Capt. Andrew Diviney was said to be in fair condition last week after the AV-8B Harrier he was flying crashed into the sea in the Persian Gulf on April 2.

Diviney, a pilot with Marine Attack Squadron 231 from Cherry Point, was assigned to HMM-263 (reinforced) as part of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit that is now operating in Iraq.

The crash was not attributed to enemy fire. The plane went down off the coast while attempting to land on the USS Nassau during a night training mission. According to Navy Lt. Jessie Burns aboard the USS Nassau, an investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
