Im still picking my mos options and I want to be a combat engineer but in the Utilities/Engineer option there are things like Fabric Repair and other weird things like that. What is the probability that Ill get the combat engineer mos?

Good. It's going to depend on the needs of the Marine Corps. There are several Combat Engineer Marines on the forums, run a search and see what they've had to say to other poolees with questions like this, although this one seems to be a new one for the bucket.

Likely one of them will chime in. Welcome aboard.

What is the probability that Ill get the combat engineer mos? They will give you the 1300 mos until school then they put you where they need you. Unless you have a contract that states you are to be a 1371.

thank you for the responses. how do you get a contract? also, so when they put you where they need you, does that mean you are stuck there for the 4 years youve signed up?

contract is something you will have to take up with your recruiter. Like was said before they will stick you were they want to put you in the 1300 field which is a wide field. Unless you have hook ups. They tried making me a cannon cocker (no offense boys, couldn't do it without you) but I wanted to be a 1371. worked at MCRD for a few months before school and my Lieutenant Colonel really liked me. needless to say when a Colonel walks in and tells them there is an opening for a 1371 there is all of a sudden an opening for a 1371.

I'm pretty sure they only contract certain MOS. Mostly only contract fields. Its been a while for me. Your best bet would be to talk to your recruiter about it. not sure about how long you have to stay in an MOS before trying to transfer to another MOS. But, you can do it.

I'm not sure what all the recruiters are allowed to do. But while I was in boot camp I was afforded the opportunity to change my MOS because I was a hard charger and I was able to sign a contract to become a 1371. I'm sure there's a way you'll just have to talk to your recruiters about it. Just know that there is a lot more involved in that MOS besides blowing stuff up. Of course you will do your fair share of blowing stuff up :)

where on Hanson were you? Just curious as to what other 1371's did. Heck thats all I did was blow stuff up and grunt work. Did'nt even know other engineers were stationed there besides 3rd CEB. learn something new every day. What other duties did they have you do?

hell if you dont get the 1371 MOS then hopefully you will get the 1345 MOS. Heavy Equp. Operator. We worked hand in hand with the 1371s on various times. I loved my MOS and got to do a lot of cool stuff. :flag:
