View Full Version : Any last minute advice?
In 15 days I'll be heading out to Parris Island, and ever since I've first spoken to my recruiter in July of 2007 I've been collecting (and practicing on) advice. I've spoken to old Leathernecks who are friends of the family, and I've talked with some recent graduates. I know that no matter what I do, I'll never be able to prepare myself for what I'm about to go through, every Marine I've ever spoken to has told me that right from the get-go.
I've been told how to shower and use the head, how to eat, sleep, run, walk, stand, and sit.
Is there any more wisdom to be shared? It would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Poolee Welshman

Best advice I can give is to relax until you leave. When you get there do everything with speed and intensity. The things you've learned can't hurt. But, things do change, so don't be surprised to learn that things are different than how they were for the Marines you have spoken with.
Have sex every day till you get there. I garantee there is some women who will jump your bone if she knows your about to go to boot. Just say some sappy **** like i want you to be the girl i remember through boot camp. The one that gets me through.

Keep a positive attitude. Stay focused. Pay attention to details. Remember the harrassment, sleep deprivation, and other seemingly pointless stuff they put you through actually has a purpose.
Remember teamwork... absolutely no-one makes it through boot camp on their own, any more than anyone makes it through combat on their own.
Embrace the pain... when you absolutely, positively, cannot do one more pull-up, you can probably still get your chin one more inch closer to the bar, and when one more inch becomes an impossible goal, then one more centimeter, and then, one more millimeter, and then you can just drift into that mindless, idiotic haze of pain, unwilling to give up what you have gained, and unable to move any higher, until you DI has to physically knock you loose from the bar.
The pain and exhaustion are unavoidable... better to meet them head-on, and learn what they can teach you, than to try avoiding them.
Shave in the shower, brush your teeth during SDI square away time.
