Marine city councilman sworn in while in Iraq

BURNS HARBOR, Ind. — A Burns Harbor city councilman was sworn into office for a second term, even though he’s serving as a Marine in Iraq.
Sgt. Louis Bain, 32, was sworn into office Tuesday by his commanding officer at a military base in Iraq.
Bain sent photographs of the ceremony to his wife, Virginia. Security restrictions prohibited him from videotaping the event.
Bain was re-elected in November even though he was on his third tour of duty in Iraq during the campaign.
He’s scheduled to return to northwest Indiana in time for a town council meeting in April. Meanwhile, the clerk is keeping him up to date on town business by e-mail.
