Forlorn Hope

I know this issue has been previously addressed in these forums, yet I have not found in sufficient detail the answers that I am looking for. It has been my goal to earn the title of Marine for as long as I can remember, but I have made some myopic and frankly ridiculous mistakes of which I am deeply ashamed. When I was 15 my brother and I got into a fight about a couple grams of marijuana he found on my persons. We were both charged with Assualt and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (ABDW), although those were dropped and I was charged with possession of a class D substance. I was, unfourtantly stupid enough to embark on an endevour last summer for which I am currently being charged with ABDW and attempted robbery. There's no excuse for these transgressions, but neither is there a way to change the past. I was also hospitalized for depression at the age of 15. (Step father killed himself, its not a progessive problem.) And so now, awaiting sentencing for my recent hainus acts, I am very worried that I may have eliminated my chance to become a Marine. I am aware of the possibility of obtaining a waiver, yet I am also aware that this is probably a long shot. I would like to know as for the criminal charges, would I need a waiver for each charge individually; or would one for all of my charges suffice? Also I am aware that the hospitalization requires another waiver as well, would the need for two waivers automaticaly disqualify me? Lastly, I would very much like to know who I would need to bug to get my waivers through, and what things I could do to improve my chances such as letters of recommendation or a statement from a therapist as to my mental stability ect. I have no intention of just giving up becouse of my past, im working very hard at getting myself as squared away as possible and I have every intention of fullfilling my dream.
I thank you all very much for any help or advice you could give me, I look forward to your replys.

You probably have to resolve the current charges, no doubt. The perception is that the Army is more lenient in criminal waivers. Perhaps a hitch in the Army first then apply to Our Beloved Corps.

I am aware that I have to resolve my current charges before a recruiter will even talk to me, and I thought about the Army first then the Corps but was unaware if they would take me if was in the Army prior. While I am fully willing to take this route, do you belive that is my only option? Also, should I just not try for the Marines and go straight to the Army recruiter, or should I try for the Marines then if I can't, go and enlist in the Army?

If YOU know that these issues have previously been discussed in this forum, what makes you think by telling your super hero story and life of crime that the answers are going to change miraculously just for you?
The gates of MEPS will open up tomorrow and a lightning bolt will strike a recruiter on his azz and if you click your heels together three times all your troubles will go away.....can I hear a CLICK?
Ain't nobody going to take you until your charges are resolved and you paid you debt. The days of convicts for the Corps is over. You should invest your energy into taking care of your civil problems and once you have satisfied that come back here and ask all the dumbazz questions that you want too!

I apologize if I offended Blooper, I ment no disrespect. I didn't expect magic answers or any such, I just wanted to know whether or not I was disqualified outright and who it is I should bug becouse that was mentioned in another post but without specifics. Anywho thank you Yellowwing, I guess im goin Army for a bit.

I don't think you have too much of a problem. I'd talk to a recruiter about this. There aren't very much recruiters logged in on this site.

Forlorn Hope, You can't offend me! What I am telling you is with what you are saying the only one that can answer your questions is an Active Duty recruiter. However, you do have a problem to join any branch of the military if your civilian charges have not been taken care of and adjudicated. Yes the Army is more lenient on who they take but the paperwork all goes to the joint MEPS for approval. If these are classified as felonies you need to get waivers for each one!
Zackmerc....finish the SOI & go to the fleet awhile, before you give advice that you have no earthly idea what your talking about ....a few months ago you was still shiatting yellow!

Thank you very much Blooper, I am aware that I need to square away whats going on and serve my punishment w/e it may be before I can join or even talk to a recruiter. And thank you for clarifying that I need to get a waiver for both of my felony charges. When the time comes, ill go talk to a recruiter and try to hash out the best course of action from there. Im just glad there's a little glimmer of hope on the horizon here :) Thank you once again.

I don't think anyone needs to fire on his pos. He's doin a good job of shooting himself in the head.
I will answer your question precisely. You cannot join any branch while you are on probation or parole. So, it sounds like you have some time to rehabilitate yourself. However, you have an extremely difficult road ahead of you. Finish your sentence(s) with no further offenses and then see an army recruiter. You have a better chance with them. If you survive your first enlistment, you may be worthy enough to join our ranks.
Last piece of advise. Stay away from crime. It seems that you are not very good at it.

Thank you rvillac2, ill do that. And I have to agree with your last piece of advice, and thank God im not.

.
18 years old.
2 felonies.
ABDW.
Attempted Robbery? That makes it with the use of a weapon, right?
Your profile said you went to HS. Did you make to to the end? (If not another waiver required.)
You are unemployed. You watch TV, play the guitar and write.
My suggestion, write a song, sing along with your guitar, go on TV and make your fortune. You've got about as much chance as that as you do getting into the USMC.
(zackmerc - you better go clean up, because you stepped into some deep sheeit with that reply)

I'm going to give you some unasked for legal advice.
Call your lawyer and tell him what you're wanting to do. There is a chance he can work out a deal with the DA that would wrap all of this up more quickly so you can continue with your plans to enlist in the military.
It won't hurt anything to talk to a Marine Recruiter. Surprises happen. But, don't get down on yourself if they won't take you. Go to the Army and make that happen. If you serve well there, and still want to join the Marines, it will probably work out for you.

Bigalholmes, im finishing my senior year of highschool right now, in fact im an Honors student. You also forgot reading, its my favorite hobby lol. But anyways, im on house arrest at the moment and going to church and school are the only things im allowed windows for. Thusly gainful employment is not currently an option. Maybe trying to make a fortune doing those things is more realistic, maybe not. Ive gotta try to find out. :)
Echo_Four_Bravo, my lawyer is currently trying to work out a deal with the Judge, I go back on Jan. 3rd to find the results of that. (Judge wants to look over all discovery and other information) Anywho, ive got my plan sorted out I think. Talk to recruiter, join Army, serve to the best of my ability, then try and join the Marines. I thank you very much for your constructive input.

Seriously now, You have about as much chance of getting in the Marine Corps as a snowball has in h*ll. You have crapped your bed and now you have to sleep in it. Do I feel sorry, NO I do not! today's Corps is not a Corps of draftees and rejects from judicial processes gone awry, rather today's Corps relies on education and technology, even in the grunts. Today's Corps has no use for, and righteously so, misfits and rejects who haven't learned to get along in society as you have proven (twice) that you cannot do. You seem to feel that the world owes YOU a f*ckng living and not that you owe the world instead. You cry and whine that you can't join our beloved Marine Corps because you have proven yourself to be anti social, so freaking what! You want me to cry for you, go fly a kite. Accept the fact that you will have to prove yourself in life another way. I wish you well and hope you have a very sucessful life, but accept the facts and don't despoil my Marine Corps with your whiney crying attitude because YOU and no one else but YOU screwed up twice by trying to take from others what wasn't yours to begin with...

Oh my lord.
Well done, Bloop.
Be glad you got to this before I did.....
It likely would have been......unpleasant.
Oh, what the heck...in the spirit of Christmas....
I'll be nice and not Malignant....
FIRST, stop doing dope, dumbazz! Dat shiite make you stoopid, which is readily apparent from your bungled criminal career.
SECOND... See the FIRST.
THIRD...Learn to control yourself. It's called 'Self Discipline'. It will serve you well throughout life.
FOURTH....For you, at present, the Army or the Army National Guard sound like your best option. (Once you are off probation, that is...) And, yes, you can do your time, and re-enlist into the Marines with an Honorable Discharge from the Army. You'll go through recruit training and such, but you'll be older....and hopefully, wiser. You will also need a drug waiver at this point, so the sooner you quit with the dope, the easier it will be when they ask you what you've done, and how much. Hopefully, you've stuck with the wacky weed and haven't ventured into the hard stuff. If you have, likely you'll find yourself at the business end of a port-a-john sucking hose for the forseeable future, if you are lucky.
CEEEEAAASSSEE FIIRRREEEEEE.
Hey! That was nice...wasn't it??? I'm turning over a new leaf, dontcha know.....gonna be the 'rainbow happy my little pony Leprechaun' from here on out.

By the way. Did you know that "Forlorn Hope" was the nick name of the engineers in the revolutionary war?

I was unaware of Forlorn Hope being the engineers nickname in the revolutionary war, I thought it was what they called the intial troops who charged fixed positions in napoleonic times. But, thank you guys, ill shoot for
Army and well if im not good enough for the Marines then I guess thats my fault, your right Camper51. A bit of an unpleasant relization, but...I think you hit the nail on the head their. Anywho I thank you all and ill be going now before the shooting starts again. Merry Christmas to all of you.
