Monday, Dec 17, 2007 - 10:59 AM Updated: 01:43 PM
By Press Release
MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - Marines, sailors and civilians are coming together under the banner of Operation Thunder to aid a former Marine who is stricken with stage three brain cancer by putting him, his wife and three children in a local hotel while volunteers conduct "extreme makeover" type renovations to their house Dec.18 and 19.
Due to the advancement of his cancer, retired SSgt. Tom Hentz can only work three to five days a month and can no longer do the little things that need to be done around his house. In the spirit of Marines taking care of their own; volunteers from the Marine Corps Finance Community, Headquarters and Support Battalion, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune are converging on the Hentz family's home to give it an extreme makeover.
Construction will start at 8 a.m. Tuesday and will continue until the project is done the next day. Some of the repairs include but are not limited to:
Hanging drywall
Hanging doors
Repairing wood laminate flooring
Repair water damage to siding
Fix plumbing in both bathrooms
Framing office closet and window
Install new sink fixtures in both bathrooms Install garbage disposal and microwave
