why is there a break in the numbering between the lead and follow series in boot camp? I have been lead to believe it is a ceremonial thing but would like to confirm. has it always been this way?

Marine Corps recruit platoons have always had a series in connection the training at both MCRDs. This is to indentify the platoons in the series. There are some cases were there are several platoons graduating at the same time. As far as I know the series have always been conducted this way. There may be posts on the forum to your question that provide more information.
How is your recruit doing?
