Whats up, I just wanted to ask about the best way to make friends with other Marines while on base. I've heard that the new guys on base are usually treated like "fresh meat" most of the time. I'm somebody who takes a while to adjust to new people and new surroundings. So what is the best way to make friends with your fellow Marines.

It's not E-harmony dot dating service. Those who sweat and suffer together in a tough occupation develop a certain camaraderie where friendship and respect is a biproduct but not always the rule, theres some you might hate. It just happens. There is a bond with most all Marines but the ones you dont know often remain acquaintances unless you work together and click.

How did you make friends in school? It works more or less the same way in the Corps.
Work hard, pull your weight, be a stand-up guy, don't whine and snivel. The friendships will come and the "fresh meat" treatment will disappear.

The Marines that you find on base & throughout your tour in the Marine Corps will be your friends & brothers for life! In not all cases the friends you have before you join the Marine Corps will go their own way.You will have nothing in common with them except childhood. In the Marine Corps the friends you make and even the ones you don't know will be your brothers & sisters ten, twenty years down the line. On your death bed and at your grave.
The Rambo wannabees of high school will ask you, "how's it goin' in the Army man?" The friends you make in the Marines will not ask because they know and you will share a common goal.Except maybe that sweetheart of puppy love or the old Saturday night standby.
I agree that not all you run into will be your friend or drinking buddy,or try to use your wallet as their own. Personalities will clash....but in the same token...same as in the civilian world just because one is an azzhole does not mean that you can't work with them side by side.
I have a lot of friends that I keep in contact with from my Marine Corps life...I have a lot of veteran friends locally and coast to coast and a number of civilian friends. Just be yourself and don't try to be something your not. Remember the rules and regulations of fraternization, and just like on the block or school you should be fine. If they don't want to be your friend because of your values or theirs oh well....F**k em! and not literally...unless your sleeping with them!
Don't be a Pvt,PFC,or LCPL out of boot camp and try to be a FRIEND to your NCO's or SNCO's...They are not your friend.....but they will be your BROTHER!

LOL!
And when you're trying to meet a girl - the free beer works especially if you do some romantic crap like send it from across the club.

You'll be able to meet plenty of folks on, and off, base. Don't sweat it.
That free beer trick never worked for me....well, it did in the Philippines, but that's a story for another time....
