I'm getting an m249-para on monday and I was wondering if anybody here could send me an internet link to a site with some info (max effective range, grazeing fire, sustained fire etc.) on the NEW parra saws. I tryed searching for a site but I keep getting info on the old saw and crap from video games.

I had one in Iraq, they are nice.
I believe they are the same specs, but with fewer barrel changes...
but don't quote me on that...I'm not an expert with the weapon.

I thought the only difference was the barrel and buttstock lengths... I'm probably wrong though.

From Wiki:

M249 Para (M249E3)

The M249 Para is a commercial product (law enforcement (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Police) and military sales only) by FNH USA, not a type classification. It features a metallic, retractable stock and a shorter barrel. It was designed as a paratrooper (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paratrooper) weapon, although its compact dimensions make it desirable in any combat scenario. The U.S. military did test a short-barreled variant based on a standard M249, but it would appear short-barreled M249s (not M249E4 SPWs or Mk 46 Mod 0s) have been modified to this standard in the field and are not original from factory. The difference between the FN M249 Para and the FN MINIMI Para is the use of the so-called PIP (Product Improvement Program) kit developed for the M249, which is also found on all commercial M249 variants.

the specs are pretty much the same for any other saw. I carry one but it has the M4 buttstock and a 13.75" barrel. The only downside is that the ACOG is calibrated for a 20" M16A4, and doesn't compensate correctly with my SAW's barrel
