CAMP PENDLETON: The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, a national charity that began at Camp Pendleton, has received a Spirit of Hope Award.

The award is given to people or groups exemplifying values such as duty, courage, loyalty and integrity. It was established a decade ago by the Hope Family Foundation in honor of the late entertainer Bob Hope, who performed for the troops for decades.

Officials for the Marine fund received the award Nov. 19 during a Pentagon ceremony. The nonprofit organization has given more than $15 million in grants to wounded Marines and their families since its 2004 founding.

The money is used in a variety of ways, such as buying wheelchairs and helping injured Marines train for new careers. –H.T.P.
