A Memorial to WW II Illinois Veterans was completed and dedicated on December 4, 2005 to the people of Illinois and WW II veterans everywhere. More than 987,000 men and women from Illinois served in uniform in WW II and 22,000 paid the ultimate price for freedom with their lives. The Memorial was completed through the efforts of 22 WW II veterans, their spouses and children.
The WW II veterans began this project in 1999 when all were well into their 70th and 80th years. The building of this Memorial is truly a testimony to the 'greatest generation' that they should so honor those who served with them and to those who never made it home.
The WW II Illinois Veterans Memorial can be viewed at our website. Their stories and photos have been and are being added weekly for the sake of history, that future generations will read and know of their sacrifice.
