U.S. Marines Leader Of The Month: Kevin Dorsey
RISE Magazine, MA -

Kevin Dorsey has been a leader on the Forestville (Forestville, Md.) football team ever since his sophomore year, when after the last game of the season he asked all the non-seniors to meet him in the weight room the next day to start preparation for the following season. Now a senior himself, Dorsey is the ultimate role model. Forestville coach Charles Harley says the 6-foot-1, 187-pound wide receiver is the hardest worker he’s ever coached — and it shows on the field. As a junior, Dorsey collected 28 receptions for 1,025 yards and 12 touchdowns. He was also a leader on defense, playing defensive back and tallying 42 tackles, two interceptions and two pass breakups. Dorsey, who also runs track, has committed to Maryland for football.

U.S. Marines Leader of the Month

Do you know the difference between a great athlete and a great leader who happens to also be a great athlete? A leader is a special person who cares about their teammates as much as their own athletic performance. A leader is willing to sacrifice for the benefit of the team. A leader sets examples for teammates. A leader is the first at practice and the last to leave. A leader plays with passion and respects the competition. A leader always looks to set a positive example, whether on the playing field, in the classroom or within the community.

The U.S. Marines stand for special individuals who are ready to take leadership roles. So does RISE. As a result, the U.S. Marines and RISE partnered up on the Leader of the Month award to solute high school athletes who best exemplify what it means to be a leader on and off the field.

Know someone who is a special athlete?
Know someone who is a leader to their peers?
Know someone who leads by example?

If so, we’d love to hear about them. Maybe they can be named Leader of the Month and be featured in RISE.

Go ahead and nominate them at Leader@risemag.com
