99 year old Marine honored at parade

It's a day we honor veterans of the Armed Services. Today hundreds of people turned out to recognize the thousands of veterans living in Tucson at the 88th annual Veterans Day parade downtown.

The High School Reserve Officer Training Corps, along with US Marine Corps Honor Guard marched in the parade. Jewish war veterans also participated.

While hundreds of veterans attended, parade organizers honored a special veteran.

Miriam Cohen bucks the old saying that everyone admires a MAN in uniform.

She isn't just any Marine. At 99-- she's one of the oldest--and still proud of her country and her service.

"Marines-- they're devoted. And they do wonderful charitable things too," she says.

She's also one of the first female marines.

"Anybody who is one of the first makes a huge difference," says Sgt. Jean Hansen.

Miriam's family says she didn't see combat. Instead, she traveled to various military offices to prove women could do the same job as men.

"All of those World War II women were trailblazers. They were the ones that led the way," Hansen says.

Miriam is honored on a day meant for remembering veterans like her.

As a corvette rolls down the parade route people cheer. They're celebrating patriotism, service, and commitment of the men and women like Miriam in uniform.
