View Full Version : Fun PT
Tonight the Poolies and I had a pretty sweet PT. We got old Marine gear and hiked a few miles with a pack, flak jacket, and kevlar. Tonight was the first time I actually got to realize that im becoming a Marine, and it was pretty damn motivating. I cant wait till my next workout. Just wondering if any you guys do anything cool for PT at your places, other than running and stuff.

Good to go Laz.
But do US a huge favor. Capatalize Marine, Marines, and Marine Corps.
For PT today, I did 2 miles with 75lbs pack on my back, had to stop short because I had to run back to the recruiting office and handle some paper-work. Tomorrow, were going to do a 6 mile hump to finish the weekend.

Tonight was the first time i actually got to realize that im becoming a marine, and it was pretty damn motivating.well hell thats a fun start but lets take it a step further on becoming a mud Marine; dig a strategicaly positioned hole in your backyard and sleep in it. Fill it up before you go to school and dig it out again just before dark, repeat...dont sound like much of a party does it?:iwo:

Now that soundsfun. We usually just play basketball and run! As for digging a hole in the backyard... Maybe not so much fun. Plus my wife would probably rip me a new a$$.
For our PT, we start out with stretching lead by the Guide. Then we go for about a 1 mile run lead by Marines on leave usually and come right back into formation. We then get "tossed around" by the Marine, push-ups, sit-ups, side straddle hops...also, he would say "Down on your face!" "To slow! Go touch my sign!"(which we sprint to and it's a 1/4 mile away) or "On your face! On your back! On your feet!" over and over...We then head into the garage (as its about 40 degrees outside) and stand in formation. We learn drills like dress right dress, cover, and how to march. For the ones that want to screw up can go play "games" with that Marine. Our PT sessions last around 2 hours. What about yours?
Our PT usually last anywhere from 18:00 to 21:00 or 18:00- 22:00. It usually depends if we have a good basketball game going or not. Our Marines that are with us on leave usually go over some Marine Corps history followed by IST (crunch, push-up, side straddle hops, mt. climbers, and steamrollers). We usually IST for around 10 mins non stop. It can get pretty brutal especially after playing basketball for 3 hrs without breaks. Before we are allowed to leave, we have to run a mile and our recruiters will ask usk us what our general orders are. If we get them right we can rest and wait for everyone else to get done. However, if we get them wrong, we have to run 1/2 a mile and try again. My first time I went I think I ran about 3 miles total because my dumb a$$ didn't know some of my orders. Trust me, you lean them real quick when you are sweating your nuts off running.

Haha I went to a pool function the other day and the recruiters had us do some pull ups and some other things. Then there like were gonna go on a little run. So we all figure its gonna be a mile or so like normal. Nope not this time they have us run 3 miles. It was fun though everyone was pretty winded and they act like it was nothing.

I PT with my recruiter in the mornings before school. He has some gym equipment that we use. Then on thursdays we have PT at 5:00. It varies from week to week. It almost always consists of a three mile run. We run from the office to Don Fox Park (1 1/2 miles) do obstacle course, cardio, etc while we are there. Then we run back. Total of three miles. He also has us do the armstrong pullup routines. (look it up...its freakin awesome) Cross fit stuff, MCMAP (he was a MCMAP instructor in the fleet), and good ole cadence runs (he requires we all learn at least one)My recruiter likes to keep things interesting and new...but he never lets us off easy. Pt is the highlight of my week. Oh and during the summer when it was really friggin hot, we would put on some cammies and go swimming at the local fitness center. Swim qual stuff. This thursday we are going on a six mile march.

I didnt know "humps" were PT, I thought we'd be humping to PT...
Fun PT
Thanks for getting my hopes up, Laz. I thought this would involve zombies or something. However, I suppose hiking around in real gear would be a nice change to staring at a plaster wall or ceiling for the duration of one's workout.
