Hey everyone. I know this morning I said I was leaving on 20071113 but I just got back from my 3 hours of daily PT to find out they changed my ship date and my MOS. It has been changed to 20071217 because my run time is better, but still not so hot, thanks to my lung that collapsed a month ago still giving me residual problems. I also had my MOS changed, much to my happiness, to 40XX Data Systems, which is what I do already as a self-employed IT consultant, so I'm pretty damn happy about that rather than having the 28XX Data/Communications Maintenance MOS they just handed me. I was shocked at first about all of this, but now I'm really happy about it because it gives me more than enough time to not only train for the IST, but for the PFT too. That and having a job I would actually like helps motivate me too!
Just wanted to let you all know so you don't wonder why I'm still on here posting next week ;)

You let a little collapsed lung get in the way of shipping?!?!?!?!?:p You have two!
Been there and feel for you, think you made the right move to make you more competitive and bring your times up. Good luck!

LOL well it wasn't me, it was my lung! If it were me, I wouldn't have allowed the "not being able to breathe when I run" thing to slide. Unfortunately lungs are not quite like kidneys in the fact that you can lose one and have the other one pick up for you! But I have still been pushing myself despite the lung issue, and I got my just pitiful "run" time for the IST from 25 minutes to 16 minutes in the span of a week, so I am getting there. I would optimally like to get to running 3 miles within the PFT times. Weird thing is, the Gunny told me yesterday my ship date got changed to 20071217 like it already was done, but then my recruiter, a SSgt, told me that it might happen since he didn't hear back officially about it, since he wants to send switch ship dates with another girl at our RSS with mine. He also said I wouldn't be shipping 20071217 like the Gunny had said, but 20071213, which makes no sense to me. Don't know what to expect.
I also have another question...the Gunny told me yesterday that my MOS contract was BX and I would probably be getting something like an 065X MOS since I'm already in IT. Then I ask my recruiter today, and he said I got a BY contract. I never heard of a BY contract...I even did a Google search a few times with multiple wordings and got nothing. I got hits on the BX contract though. So, my question is this...is there a BY contract at all or what? My recruiter said I got Data Communications, then the Gunny said I got Data Systems. I hear one thing, then another, and I don't know what to figure although I have asked numerous times! I just figured I would ask and see if you all could help me figure this out like you are all so good at doing :-)
Thank you!

My recruiter said I probably had a BY MOS contract in Data Systems, which like I said made absolutely no sense to me. The Gunny told me yesterday I got a BX contract and would be in a 065X MOS, which makes a LOT more sense to me. The Gunny was the one who initiated the ship date change for me and changed my MOS to that for me too; then my recuiter tells me I got some BY MOS contract and wasn't sure if my ship date was getting changed 100% yet and even if it was I would leave 20071213 and not 20071217 like the Gunny told me. I don't know who to believe! LOL.

In some instances if you have a specific MOS that is guaranteed your bootcamp training has to co-inside with the school seat for you. The Marine Corps is investing quite a bit of $$$$ for your seat and it has to be timed with your boot leave and the avaialbility for your school. I don't know why your trecruiter couldn't have told you this. It may be due to in-experience. But I am not sure what programs are actually available these days. It has been since the 80s since I was a Marine Corps Recuiter. At any rate get stronger take your time and meet or exceed you goals. But maybe take it a few steps farther to be a head of the games of PT that you will go through at PI. You have plenty of time with the improvements that you have accomplished in a week.
Good luck

Well what the Gunny at my RSS told me was that I got a BX MOS contract, which from what I saw was 05XX MAGTF Planning Specialist along with the two 065X IT related MOS fields. The Gunny was telling me that I would be doing something in that 065X field since I already have a lot of IT training and work experience thanks to Rutgers. He was telling me a lot about that field, both from his occupational description binder and just from his memory, like I would be trained by Microsoft and things along that line. He also seemed damn certain it seemed to me about my ship date being moved. I asked my recruiter about this today when we were coming back from court, and he's like, "Ummm, I think you got Data Communications...I think that's a BY contract, I'm not sure." I asked him about if I got that BX contract if it really is a 5 year enlistment (which I found out it was thanks to doing a search on this forum :-) ), and he goes, "Umm, I don't think so, I think it's just a 4 year enlistment..." He didn't seem too sure of himself. He also said he didn't hear back about my ship date being changed, but the Gunny seemed like it was done already, so I feel totally in the dark here. As much as I really respect my recruiter and all that he has done for me (like coming to court with me today when he didn't need to), I feel like I should go with and trust the Gunny on this one, no? It really seemed like he knew what the deal was and all the info just about my MOS made sense and went together. I'm supposed to back tomorrow for my daily 3 hours of PT, so I have to get this sorted out then, otherwise I will go nuts! You could probably tell I'm already scratching my head about it!
