OleSarge- I thought of you when I saw this list. (To get you riled up a bit. LOL) Please note all those names that are, or have been, decision makers during this ongoing War on Terror. I just so happens that they had draft deferments for the Vietnam War....and I'm not quite sure what this means aside from the curiosity or coincidence of it all.

Draft Deferment: Vietnam
EVENT

Recipients of draft deferments during the Vietnam War era. Note that some of these men enlisted in the armed forces despite a deferment.
A total of 1,857,304 men were drafted between August 1964 and February 1973, drawing from the pool of men born on or before 1955.

Some common Selective Service classifications:

1-A Ready for immediate induction. (no deferment)
1-Y Qualified for military service only in time of national emergency (classification eliminated 10-Dec-1971)
2-S Student deferment (temporary delay)
3-A Extreme hardship to dependents
4-F Unqualified for military service (exemption)
See also Draft Deferment.

GSO =============If we are going to keep our guns in this country we need a whole bunch of people who make news, sing, act, etc, etc. to help in the fight. A couple of weeks ago I watched Ted n. in a intervew with a bunch of gun grabers, tree huggers and bunney hugers. I have never seen anybody handle them with the eaze he did and shut them up the way he did. They had been beaton badly and they knew it. If and when the goverment says they are to take the guns from law biding people who are they going to send? Not the police. I hope this day never comes.

Didn't Clay/Ali wind up doing some jail time for refusing to report or some such thing? I can kinda admire that if it's true, at least he stood up for what he believed. Unlike the run to Canada Nother Fucers who I will never forgive.

Al Gore did serve in Vietnam.

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b38/lcple3/AlGoreVietnam.gif

Gore opposed the Vietnam War (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietnam_War) and could have avoided serving overseas by accepting a spot in the National Guard that a friend of his family had reserved for him, or by other means of avoiding the draft. Gore has stated that his sense of civic duty compelled him to serve in some capacity. He enlisted in the United States Army (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Army) on August 7 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/August_7), 1969 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1969). After basic training at Fort Dix (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Dix), Gore was assigned as a military journalist writing for The Army Flier, the base newspaper at Fort Rucker (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Rucker). With seven months remaining in his enlistment, Gore was shipped to Vietnam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietnam), arriving on January 2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_2), 1971 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1971). He served for four months with the 20th Engineer Brigade (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/20th_Engineer_Brigade) in Bien Hoa (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bien_Hoa) and for another month at the Army Engineer Command in Long Binh (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_Binh).
Gore said in 1988 that his experience in Vietnam:

"didn't change my conclusions about the war being a terrible mistake, but it struck me that opponents to the war, including myself, really did not take into account the fact that there were an awful lot of South Vietnamese who desperately wanted to hang on to what they called freedom. Coming face to face with those sentiments expressed by people who did the laundry and ran the restaurants and worked in the fields was something I was naively unprepared for."

Yep, that's one of the sentences that prefaces the list. I'm sure that there are others but I am not aware of them right off hand.

Yes I did see that sentence. But in my opinion grouping those that serve with the rest of these a-holes is wrong and makes it appear that all on that list are the same.

FIST=========Ted Nugent supports our troops and also very pro gun.

I also like Ted Nugent for his music and his politics but...

An interviewer from a British newspaper questioned Nugent about a 1977 interview for a magazine in which Nugent allegedly detailed elaborate steps taken to avoid the Vietnam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietnam_War) draft (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conscription_in_the_United_States). While not denying that he made such statements, Nugent dismissed their veracity, claiming that when confronted with 'glazed-eyed' interviewers, he would "make stories up." He explained that he did not go to Vietnam because he had a 1 year student deferment. When questioned, he admitted that he had "not wanted to get his ass blown off in Vietnam," but made note of a tour he made with the USO (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USO) in 2004 to Fallujah (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallujah) and Afghanistan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afghanistan) as support of his assertion that "I am not a coward." He also said that "Because I failed to serve in Vietnam, I feel an obligation now, to do everything I can to support those defending our freedom. Do I feel guilt and embarrassment? Yes."

This is one of the reasons they have a hard time getting people to serve today. It was very easy to get out of the draft so a lot of people (for whatever reason )did so.Now years latter I think more then a few are going
threw a guilt trip. What do you tell a son who wants to know why you did't serve. For those old enough to remember ,the so called anti war?peace movment (demonsrations)Vanished when they ended the draft. That says alot about thier motives.

The draft........==----=Vietnam had the hightst percentage of volinters of any morden war when we drafted men. A lot of vets volintered for the draft knowing they would to Vietnam but they only had 2 years to do. Side note I do not like Teds music. For now he is doing the pro gun people good.
