Call a recruiter and see if they're willing to work with you. It won't be easy.

You must go out without a fight. You were discharged from the National Guard, and came here looking for a place to go next. Simply put, the Marine Corps is the varsity, the National Guard isn't quite Junior Varsity. If you can't make the JV team, you're not likely to move up to varsity.

Asthma is one of the permanently disqualifying traits if you've had it over (correct me if I'm wrong) but age 12.. I think. So no way, buddy. Sorry to burst your bubble, but the simple fact is that they have these rules for EVERYONE'S safety.. If you have an asthma attack in the field, someone's getting hurt.. either you or your buddy trying to help you find an inhaler.
Asthma....that is a NO GO... .listen to the real Marines, man..

You can have asthma, but you have to get a waiver, which means taking a pulmonary function test. There are plenty of Marines with asthma- but they aren't going to have problems with the asthma.

I admire your tenacity! However if the Army National Guard DQ'ed you because of asthma. The Marine Corps will too! If you read the threads about asthma on this board you will see that young recruits are getting sent home without completing boot camp, from asthma attacks as toddlers or punk kids. You can take a PFT today and pass. Tomorrow you can go to PI or San Diego (hypothetical) and die! You can have asthma after boot camp and IST and MOS school not before.
Take your paperwork to a Marine Corps recruiter from the ANG and disclose your discharge results and ask them. But,I think you are in for a disappointment and a short ride.

whenver i was in high school i was running 50 and 60 miles every week i rean cross country........from 11th grade i started doing the pulmonary tests once every year and every one that i have done my lungs are normal and my doctor said that i dont have a diagnosis of asthma... but the medical records that where sent to meps did not have those tests in them....and i just did one about three weeks ago and the results where normal

Cwalling, you can get a waiver because it isn't that big of an issue for some people. I had asthma, but have never used an inhaler. If you have normal lung function you can get in.
roguenate, how far you ran is unimportant. You could be the most fit person in the world and end up with an asthma problem. However, the pulmonary tests do matter. All you can do is call a recruiter and be honest about everything. Bring your medical records with you when you meet him. To be honest, you're fighting an uphill battle. The asthma alone is a show stopper for most people. You have to get through a reenlistment code of 3 before that even becomes an issue.

If you say that the SMCR is the JV, we're gonna fight!!! LOLOLOL.
RE-3 = Individuals who are not qualified for continued Army service, but the disqualification is waiverable. Ineligible for enlistment unless a waiver is granted.

rvillac, the SMCR is the varsity. Maybe just a state runner-up rather than the state champ!
