View Full Version : MOS Security Force?
Hey everyone, I recently found out that it would be impossible to attain 15 college credits by January, so I talked to my recruiter and he changed my shipping date to next week (20071113) . Im really excited to finally start recruit training. The only problem is the 2 MOS that I wanted ( Recon, and Infantry) are filled. Which leaves me with my final MOS , Security Force. I was wondering If someone could provide me with some more information on the job. So I know what I should expect to do and all. I tried searching the forums for some information on Security Force, but wasnt able to find any, If there is a post already up on Security Force, I would appreciate it if you would direct me there. Thank you everyone.

Security Forces is an ofshoot of the Infantry MOS it is just another designation. If you do not meet the qualifications for the security clearance you become infantry so... I may be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure how it works. I would recommend talking with the recruiter about it.

Infantry is full?
Infantry is always full unless you demand it and say you will not ship without it. I was told it was full, but when I was going to say I'll wait until you get me one...goodbye, I was able to get it in 20 minutes with a few phonecalls.
IF YOU WANT INFANTRY DON'T SETTLE FOR ANYTHING BUT INFANTRY. THEY WILL FIND YOU THE SPOT IF YOU REFUSE TO LEAVE UNTIL YOU GET IT. THE PROBLEM IS EVERYONE IS WILLING TO SETTLE FOR THEIR SECOND CHOICE JUST TO LEAVE AND THAT IS WHAT RECRUITERS BANK ON. HOLD OUT AND WAIT, YOUR 4 YEARS WILL BE BETTER IF YOU ARE DOING WHAT YOU WANT TO.
Remember you are making a 4 year committment. Wait a few minutes, hours, days, weeks, months to get what you want or else you will regret leaving so early in the end. How can you make a committment to something you don't want even if it is a 2nd or 3rd choice, I wouldn't have done anything else. I would say call me when you can help me.

from what i've heard security forces is...the equivalent of being on post..every.damn.day.
a friend of mine describes it as firewatch, your just guarding an instalation or building for 2 years, then you get rotated into a infantry battalion for 2 years..2 years stateside doing SF,2 years overseas doing infantry.
the schools are awsome though,he attended marksman training,CQB training and is trying for FAST Co.

First, you may be stateside, or overseas doing security forces, just depends where you happen to get assigned.
And, you will NOT spend 2 straight years overseas as an infantryman. They will train stateside, deploy, return-- and the cycle continues.

I just signed a infantry contract today shipping me on the 26 of this month AND getting me a 15000 dollar bonus. There wasnt any problem...they actually offered me the bonus i didnt have to ask. You have two choices confront the recruiter and demand infantry or just find another recruiter...far far away.

Yes, yes, yes!!
I had signed for intel back in September because my number 1 choice was full. My recruiter said they were going to continue to look for my #1 choice. Fast forward to last wk. Dad told me what Woody already knows- hint to my recruiter that you won't ship on time unless you get your #1 choice. It was like magic! Less than 24hrs later I get a call saying they found a Data Systems slot and for me to come sign an SOU
Hold your ground and get what you want.
Thanks everyone really appreciate the helpful advice, had I not heard it from you guys I could've made a big mistake, that I might've regretted. Thanks again everyone, I told my recruiter I wont leave unless I go as Infantry, they said fine, and sent out a fax to get my MOS changed to Infantry. Tomorrow im double checking just to make sure

I would have to think that you were the exception and not the rule. They put you at Kings Bay with no formal school other then SOI? I'm sure you know what you did but that seems real odd to me, to be at a PRP command with no screening or schooling? I know it's not rocket science but there has to be more to your story? So they OJT'ed you the MOS? I didn't know they could do that for that position? Interesting:thumbup:

actually at that time, I was NOT the exception. NO ONE i ever knew, in two different MCSF commands, Kings Bay, or NavMag Guam, ever went to Security Forces School. We all went straight from SOI . Now, Once at each place, it took a wek or two to get security clearance, but thats how it happened.

Its not TOO bad if you go to a FAST Company out of BSG. PRP just sounds like no fun to me at all. Make sure your in good shape before you get to a FAST platoon though. You will PT every morning your not in the field and you will run no less than 3 miles a day. Its a pretty good gig. You get Non-leathal weapons training for the whole platoon and you get to go through Advanced Urban Combat ( AUC ). AUC is basically SWAT school, kind of like CQB but with a bigger stack on the door. You'll do one RF/DF which sucks, that is nothing but standing post. But when you do your 6 month deployment, it wil be worth it. Were going to Rota, Spain with a stop in Germany for a month and some other countries to be named later.

That's good to go, so did you get the Security Force MOS, I'd imagine you would, but? I actually think I remember hearing stories of Marines like yourself who never went through the school, during that time period. That's too bad, but you don't have to. I say too bad because you get some good training at the school, especially with weapons. But based on your Bio, I looks like it was before the Training Center at Chesapeake opened. Kings Bay is a nice place, I was part of a group of instructors from DM and CQB school who did an MTT (Mobile Training Team) and toured/visited every MCSF post, stateside. I can't speak for the actual duty there because we were only at each base to check them out for a day or two, and then make some onsite suggestions/bring new information from each base back to the schoolhouse. But it was the nicest area of all the places we went to. Semper Fi

How much bigger? Are you talking about a whole platoon or something on one door or the total number of Marines making entry? And where is AUC taught? Thank you. Semper Fi
