Merry Christmas Marines!
Merry Christmas Marines is back!! Last Christmas we sent twelve tons of stockings and Christmas goodies to marines serving on the front lines in Iraq and we want to do it again this year. We are working with the Marine Corp League and Patty Lewis at Mom4rMarines, to fill over a thousand stockings to be delivered to Marines in Iraq this Christmas.
Last Christmas Eve, late in the afternoon, a convoy pulled out of Habbaniyah, Iraq, two seven ton trucks and 4 heavily armed escort humvees. Over the next 18 hours of that dark night in the desert that convoy stopped at over two dozen remote outposts. Lt. Colonel Todd Desgrosseilliers, dressed in a Santa Claus Suit complete with grenade belt, hand delivered over a thousand Christmas stockings to his men spread across the Al Anbar Province. It ended with a sunrise Christmas Day prayer service at one of the last outposts.
There has never been a time these guys more needed to hear that they are supported by the people back home who appreciate the tough duty they are putting in on the front lines of the fight against terrorism. The stockings are filled with useful items and some fun stuff to take their minds off the war in the short times they are back at their base in Iraq. The stockings included foot pads, electronic games, socks, stationary and pens, Christmas candy and a lot more.
The bottom line is it costs money, a lot of money. Foot pads for 1100 guys are over $5000. We love to tell these guys the stockings come from the people back home who support them.
It is just a few weeks until Christmas Day. We need the money right now to buy the stuff, get every stocking packed and have it all shipped before the Christmas rush.
