As with Corpsman the Navy supplies all Chaplins with Religious Program Spacialists which is a rate in the Navy. RP's go throught their training in their rate then go through Field Medical Service School (or so it was called when I went through,) with Corpsman going to serve in Marine units. It is called field medical traning battalion as it is a Marine command were as it was a Navy command in the past. These guy did not do alot of the medical stuff like us Corpsman but this training is to get us squids use to you jarheads:banana: lol.
Anyway that is the skinny on RP's

No,There was at one time, it's all Navy now, like Corpsman.
I just have some questions about thier training and duty.
From what I understand RPs that opt to go into the FMF have to go to SOI and do a type of MCT, perform the Marine Corps PFT, Qualify with the service rifle and learm Marine Corps history and jargon.

RLeon, you are right far as their actual RP training I do not know, in '97 they did go through FMSS with us and from there I belive they went through SOI, because there main job other than setting up for Religious services was to protect the Chaplin, because they were considered a combatant. Marine PFT was also required of Corpsman to pass FMSS and serve FMF.
