heres some advice. pay attention, never fall asleep when you are not supposed to, and do everything faster than you ever have. Hope you make it through ok. and never stop trying! if you pass out while still moving forwad, you will get the benefit of the doubt. just give up on something, and they will make your life more of a hell than it already is.
as for nervousness? after a couple weeks, you should be into the groove and routine but that does not mean to relax! it just means you are more used to the way things are done.
Just remember the fastest way off is to graduate. :)
Good luck. Remember, that D.I thats yelling and spitting on you made once to become a Marine, then a second time to become a D.I. It's not as bad as it seems at the moment, use your head and follow HardJedi's advice.

Don't be nervous man, just remember, the Drill Instructors are only human.
They're not going to kill you or try to stop you from becoming a Marine.
When I got to San Diego, I was pretty nervous. I even banged my head on the bus trying to get off in a hurry. But after the first few days, I was getting a little cocky. The whole cycle I wasn't afraid of my DI's.
Just try to remain well-behaved and anonymous. I only got IT'd twice during my stay at San Diego. Once for never having been IT'd and another because the Drill Instructor was bored and he was quarterdecking anyone within an arm's reach. For most of the cycle, the drill instructors didn't know my name.
If you poolees are afraid of IT, just put out while you are on the quarterdeck. The Drill Instructors will see your effort and let you go after a few minutes.

Wow, I don't care who you were in my platoon, you got quarterdecked a lot. Anytime you messed up a drill movement...especially from the standing manual you went to the deck, if it was the marching, the whole damn platoon went. I got IT'd a lot for showing my teeth aka laughing or smiling. I ended up doing some personal one on one scuzztoweling the deck of all the water from canteens that the DI could find...it sucked. Its going to happen, just deal with it. We could have put out hardcore on the deck but we weren't leaving until the Senior got ****ed off hearing us in the house, or we answered a knowledge question, or we were demanded to be back in formation for drill. I on many occassions was pulled from classes in the RTF or in the Chapel for no reason just to be IT'd during breaks between classes. The DI's would just pick people. And in no way was I a "bad" recruit. It just happens, just remember it will make you better.
