I created this birthday card initially for my son but then thought that it might just be good enough to share with other Marines and families' of Marines. If everything has gone right, you should see a smaller version of the card and a link to the original size version that you might wish to download, print and pass on to others.
The photos that I selected mirrored, for the most part, the MOS's or deployment locations of some of the members that I have acquainted myself with over the years. Perhaps there will be a photo that you can relate to. Have the best of birthdays.
Thank you, Yellowwing , for your help.

"Shufly Marine", opps! You came a little later into the fray, same job, different day. The Semper Fi remains (Of course) as we are all brothers passing the duties on through the years.

Gary that is outstanding.....Can we produce something next year with the Beruit Marine Barracks Wall for next year?

Those brave Marines were some of the first Americans to pay for the WOT

That is a tremendous idea. If you look at the card there is a picture of the Beruit barracks (second row from the bottom, last photo on the right side.) I used creative license by showing the barracks intact.
Your suggestion brings to mind a Marine who used to visit this sight, who takes marvelous professional photographs, Corporal Jim Crotty of www.pictureohio.com. I think some of his photos had military themes to them.
Historical cards are always good, especially along traditional lines. Your suggestion is a good one.
Perhaps a Leatherneck.com calendar could be put together with favorite photos, drawings, paintings submitted by members. I gather that such a product, once completed, could be downloaded for one and all to use or pass on to others.
Once again, jetdawgg, great idea.

Gary, thanks for the compliment. I just thouught about it as the anniversary of the tragic event just passed and it happened to be number 24.

I thought that the picture was of the Marine Barracks also (before the explosion).

The card is great and you have displayed a talent here that is astounding. I continue to be impressed by the talented Men and Women that become Marines. There are all types of us:usmc:

I am a father of a Marine, part of the Marine family through my son, but I am not a Marine. You flatter me with such a compliment. I'll have to admit that I have grunted more than a few times in my lifetime. In a very round about way you could say that I am a grunt. LOL

Veterans Day

What will you do............

To those who rest the weekend, and let time pass you by,

Will you remember them, who they were, or where they lie?

Your rights, comforts and freedoms, have been provided for you,

By aged warriors who are no longer familiar or new.

<!--EZCODE IMAGE START-->http://www.tomarskabars.com/files/man_wall2.jpg<!--EZCODE IMAGE END-->

The buddies they lost, and the horrors they faced,

Are from where all of today's freedoms are based.

Take a couple minutes, a few moments of your day,

To remember, those who fought, fought for you here today.

<!--EZCODE IMAGE START-->http://www.tomarskabars.com/files/02_2.jpg<!--EZCODE IMAGE END-->

They fought in the mud, the swamps, the snow,

No matter where told, they would willingly go.

All of their efforts were to win and survive,

But for your freedoms, they would lay down their lives.

They did not fight for the glory, nor fight for the fame,

They would not surrender, when overwhelming enemy came.

For they knew in their hearts that their sons must be free,

For liberty to survive, their dedications were the key.

their strength, limbs and lives, they unselfishly gave.

What will you give towards the memory of the brave?

Visit a VA hospital, decorate a grave, or say a prayer?

Will you make some time that weekend to show that you care ?

Will you give a donation to those, who willingly answered the call,

Will you teach the new generation about the tears of the Wall ?

Show them the Iwo Jima men who raised our flag so high,

Or take them to Arlington, to see where brave men lie ?

<!--EZCODE IMAGE START-->http://www.tomarskabars.com/files/arlington_2.jpg<!--EZCODE IMAGE END-->

Generations go by and the warriors are forgotten,

People complain, life is unfair, and so utterly rotten.

No knowledge do they have, of what life is like away,

Where you are told, how to think, how to act, and pray.

Where would we be, if the call was not met,

Under marshal law, as a dictators pet?

Where fairness has no meaning, and court's in the street,

Where you're forced to make praise, at a dictators feet.

Now what will you do that weekend, with no labors to do,

Will you watch the game, maybe a drink or two?

The choices are all yours, that was given to you,

By the brave men and women, of the Red, White, and Blue.

Teach the young, of the sacrifices made ,

To honor those who's lives, were dearly paid,

You live in a country, where you are what you'll be,

But to never forget "Freedom Is Not Free".

From Gettysburg to Iraq, they guard while you rest,

What will you do, for our free nation's best.

Memorial Day is but one, out of the entire year,

The choices are yours, do you shed a tear?

Celebration is good, if the reasons are right,

Saluting the brave, who were willing to fight.

Teach all your children, to honor and see,

Because of the veteran, is why they live free.

What will you do.................
