A new season of “War Stories with Oliver North” begins Saturday night on the Fox News Channel.

The first episode, “Terror in Paradise,” chronicles the military’s joint special operations mission to upend terrorist influence in the Philippines.

“By air, land and sea, you will ride shotgun for a never-before-seen look inside the remarkable and complex world of Special Ops,” the show’s Web site says.

“War Stories” spotlights significant battles, missions and people in U.S. military history. It airs Saturdays at 9 p.m. Eastern, 6 p.m. Pacific.

Other episodes scheduled for November will profile the Allies’ botched raid at Dieppe in northern France during World War II; President Harry Truman, who ordered the nuclear strike on Japan effectively ending the war; and U.S. troops who have fought alongside members of England’s Royal Air Force.

A 52-episode “War Stories” DVD is in the works, according to Fox News. It will include about half of all the shows that have aired during the six seasons of “War Stories.” A second DVD is expected some time next year.

North, a Naval Academy graduate, served in the Marine Corps from 1968 to 1990, leaving as a lieutenant colonel. He was an infantry platoon commander in Vietnam and was awarded a Silver Star, a Bronze Star for Valor and two Purple Hearts.

But “Ollie” is maybe best known for his role during the 1980s in the Iran-Contra affair, a secretive arms deal designed to free U.S. hostages in Iran and finance Nicaraguan freedom fighters. North was convicted of three felonies related to Iran-Contra, though an appeals court later overturned the ruling.

He has written a handful of military-themed books and, apart from his own program, appears regularly on Fox News as a commentator.
