MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – Nine Marines and one sailor from 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, will receive the Purple Heart Medal from Brig. Gen. David H. Berger, assistant division commander, in a ceremony here Friday, Nov. 2, at 3:30 p.m.
The Marines and sailor are receiving the medals for injuries sustained during 1/2’s recent deployment to Al Anbar Province, Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, where the battalion served as part of II Marine Expeditionary Force
